The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

David Arquette, Holland Taylor among ‘Scarpetta’ cast additions

David Arquette, Holland Taylor, William Zapka, Kim Dickens, Killer Mike, Jodi Balfour, Stella Baker, Troy Garity and Jerod Haynes are joining Season 2 of “Scarpetta.” Based on Patricia Cornwell’s long-running 29-book series, the crime thriller follows forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta (Nicole Kidman) as she uses her expertise to solve brutal murders. Season 1 premiered on March 11.

‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 adds six new cast members

Prime Video announced Thursday that six new actors have been cast in Season 2 of “We Were Liars.” The new season takes place in 1999 and is a prequel following the Sinclair sisters in their teens. It is based on the book “Family of Liars” by E. Lockhart. Parker Lapine, Peyton List, Elysia Roorbach, Madison Wolfe, Josh Dallas and Costa D’Angelo will star.

Matthew Lillard joins ‘Man of Tomorrow’

Matthew Lillard has joined the cast of DC Studio’s “Superman” sequel “Man Of Tomorrow.” On Wednesday, the film’s director, screenwriter and producer James Gunn shared a photo on Instagram of himself with the actor. David Corenswet will star as Superman, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and  Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor.

‘When Calls the Heart’ prequel ‘Hope Valley 1874’ gets a second season

Hallmark+ series “Hope Valley: 1874” will return for a second season. The first season’s finale aired Thursday. Bethany Joy Lenz stars as widow Rebecca Clarke, who moves with her daughter to the Western Canadian frontier. Benjamin Ayres, Jill Hennessy, Roan Curtis and Lachlan Quarmby also star. “When Calls the Heart” is based on Janette Oke’s books of the same name.

‘The Listeners’ to premiere June 12

The thriller series “The Listeners,” adapted from Jordan Tannahill’s bestselling novel of the same name, will premiere on Starz on June 12. Rebecca Hall stars as an English teacher, Claire Kutty, who begins to hear a persistent hum. No one else around her can hear it.  The five-part series will stream weekly on Fridays.

‘Windy City’ getting TV adaptation

Liz Thomford announced Wednesday that her “Windy City” series is being adapted for TV by Premeditated Productions and Amazon Studios. She said: “I know rumors have been circulating about this for a few weeks now, but I wanted to hold off on saying anything until I could share this news… We officially have a showrunner! The incredibly talented Alison McDonald will be the creative lead for the ‘Windy City’ TV series and I couldn’t be happier!”

More ‘Planet of the Apes’

On Wednesday, “Fantastic Four: First Steps” director Matt Shakman and writer Josh Friedman announced their next project will be another “Planet of the Apes” film with 20th Century. Details are still under wraps. “Planet of the Apes” has been adapted multiple times from the 1963 sci-fi novel by author Pierre Boulle.

Belly and Conrad need privacy, please 

On Tuesday, the social media accounts for “The Summer I Turned Pretty” film thanked fans for their enthusiasm, but has set a boundary in the sand. “We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew. We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.”

‘The Polygamist’

Netflix announced Tuesday that it is adapting South African’s biggest telenovela, “The Polygamist,” from Sue Nyathi’s acclaimed novel of the same name. The 22-episode series will premiere on June 12. Sdumo Mtshali stars as self-made CEO Jonasi Gomora, whose many  wives and mistresses complicate his personal life. Gugu Gumede also stars.

Abigail Brelin, Annabeth Gish join ‘The Night Agent’

Abigail Breslin, Annabeth Gish and David Denman are joining the cast of the fourth and final season of “The Night Agent,” Netflix announced. Previously announced cast additions include Titus Welliver, Li Jun Li as Min, Trevante Rhodes and Elizabeth Lail. Gabriel Basso stars as Agent Peter Sutherland.

Tubi greenlights third in ‘Sidelined’ franchise

The streaming app Tubi announced Thursday that it greenlit “Sidelined 3,” the third film in its young adult franchise adapted from the Wattpad story “The QB Bad Boy and Me” by Tay Marley. Noah Beck and Siena Agudong are reprising their roles as USC quarterback Drayton Lahey and his high school sweetheart Dallas Bryan. The first film in the franchise, “Sidelined: The QB and Me” was released in 2024 and “Sidelined 2: Intercepted” came out in 2025. Tubi hasn’t announced a release date for the third and final installment in the franchise.

‘The One Piece’ gets anime series on Netflix

Eiichiro Oda’s beloved pirate saga is getting another Netflix series—this time an anime version. Monkey D. Luffy and the Straw Hat’s adventures will be shown using cutting-edge visual technology. The seven-episode series will premiere in February 2027 and show the story of the The East Blue–when fans first meet Luffy.
