This week in adaptation trailers: April 5 to 11

‘Punisher: One Last Kill’

Disney+ released the first full-length trailer for “The Punisher: One Last Kill.” The special presentation brings Jon Bernthal’s Frank Castle back into the Marvel fold after his latest appearance in Season 1 of “Daredevil: Born Again.” Bernthal first played the role in Season 2 of the first iteration of the “Daredevil” series when it aired on Netflix. His character also got a Netflix spinoff in two seasons of “The Punisher.”

“The Punisher: One Last Kill” arrives on Disney+ on May 12 before Castle hits the big screen in “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” on July 31.

‘Lord of the Flies’

Netflix dropped a trailer for the new series adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 classic, “The Lord of the Flies.” It’s the first television adaptation of the novel and hits the streaming service May 4 after a British premiere earlier this year.

The story follows a group of boys stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash. One of the boys, Ralph (Winston Sawyers), tries to lead the boys in the hopes of survival and rescue. But when Jack (Lox Pratt) starts a rebellion, any hope for structure breaks down and devolves into violence.

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’

The final trailer for “The Devil Wears Prada 2” puts Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep) back in control—and Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway) squarely in her path. In the clip, Miranda tells her former assistant she needs to “bide her time” as she waits for Andy to fail.

Andy, now an experienced reporter, is determined to make her new job as Features Editor at Runway magazine work. The trailer starts with Miranda’s new intern, played by “Bridgerton” Season 2 star Simone Ashley, showing Andy to her office—which is overflowing with boxes, binders and other bulky items. The long-awaited sequel to the 2006 film will hit theaters May 1.

‘Animal Farm’

Angel Studios released a new trailer for its animated adaptation of George Orwell’s “Animal Farm.”

The trailer follows as Lucky the pig (Gaten Matarazzo), Snowball the sow (Laverne Cox), Boxer the horse (Woody Harrelson), Carl the sheep (Jim Parsons) and the rest of the barnyard gang discover they’re about to be hauled off to the slaughter house. The barnyard animals escape that fate, rebel against the farmers and try to form a society where all animals are equal and free.

The film, which arrives in theaters May 1, is directed by Andy Serkis (who also voices two characters) and also stars Steve Buscemi, Glenn Close, Kathleen Turner and Iman Vellani.

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’

Netflix released the “Remarkably Bright Creatures” trailer on Wednesday. In it, Tova (Sally Field) gets to know Cameron (Lewis Pullman) and forms a bond with him. She also introduces him to Marcellus the octopus at the aquarium they both work at. Marcellus (voiced by Alfred Molina) narrates the trailer and says that Tova and Cameron “share a similar affliction.”

The film is an adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling 2022 novel. It will premiere on May 8.
