This week, a bunch of books took their first big steps toward the screen. Here’s a roundup of the teasers and trailers that dropped this week.

‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ Season 3

Prime Video released on Friday its first teaser for Season 3 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” The clip gives audiences a look of the new casting of Jamie Campbell Bower as Celeborn, the husband of Galadriel (Morfydd Clark). The new season will jump forward several years from the end of Season 2, after Sauron takes the nine rings for men and leaves the elven city of Eregion largely destroyed. 

The series stars Markella Kavenagh as Nori Brandyfoot, Robert Aramayo as Elrond, Benjamin Walker as Gil-galad, Daniel Weyman as Gandalf, Owain Arthur as Durin IV, Sophia Nomvete as Disa and Charlie Vickers as Sauron. It adapts texts written by J.R.R. Tolkien set in the world he created in “The Hobbit” and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. 

Season 3 debuts on Prime Video on Nov. 11.

‘Blade Runner 2099’

Prime Video debuted the first teaser trailer for the sci-fi series “Blade Runner 2099” on Friday at San Diego Comic-Con. The trailer features Hunter Schafer as Cora and Michelle Yeoh as Olwen, both replicants. 

“Fifty years after the events of ‘Blade Runner 2049,’ Los Angeles has been reborn, just not by humanity. Cora, a fugitive in a final bid to stop running, takes on one last identity: a Blade Runner. Forced to partner with Olwen, a replicant days from dying, she hunts down a runaway hiding a truth that could collapse their fragile city,” a synopsis of the eight-part series reads. 

The series debuts on Nov. 25.

‘Lanterns’

DC Studios released its first full-length trailer for “Lanterns” on Friday. The trailer opens with Hal Jordan (Kyle Chandler) attempting to teach John Stewart (Aaron Pierre)—both iterations of the Green Lantern superhero—how to use the ring that gives them powers. As Hal comes to terms with the idea that John is his replacement, they learn they must defend Earth from the so-called Manhunters, described as the most dangerous beings in the galaxy who can take the shape of anyone. 

The HBO series also stars Laura Linney, Nathan Fillion, Kelly Macdonald, Jason Ritter and Garret Dillahunt. The series debuts Aug. 16 on HBO.

‘Ebenezer’

Johnny Depp is offering his take on the classic character Ebenezer Scrooge in the new “A Christmas Carol” adaptation, “Ebenezer.” Paramount released the trailer Thursday with a special appearance by Depp—in full character—at San Diego Comic-Con. The film is directed by Ti West and adapted by Nathaniel Halpern from the classic Charles Dickens Christmas story. Also starring in the film are Rubert Grint, Daisy Ridley, Ian McKellen and Sam Claflin. The film hits theaters Nov. 13.

‘Clayface’

DC Studios on Wednesday released a full trailer for upcoming horror film “Clayface,” which tells the origin story of the DC Comics super villain.

“Clayface,” directed by James Watkins, stars Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen, the man who goes on to become the Batman foe Clayface.

“Matt Hagen’s meteoric rise from Gotham street kid to Hollywood leading man is tragically cut short when a local crime boss’s actions leave him horribly disfigured,” the official synopsis reads.

The trailer features scenes of Hagen having trouble controlling the shape-changing abilities he receives, including having to cut his own eyelids open in an airplane restroom.

Naomi Ackie also appears in the trailer as the person who administers the procedure and attempts to help Hagen deal with his transformation. David Dencik, Max Minghella, Eddie Marsan, Nancy Carroll and Joshua James also star. The film releases in theaters Oct. 23.

‘Other Mommy’

Jessica Chastain pulls out all the creepy looks and moves in the first trailer for her new horror film, “Other Mommy,” which came out Tuesday. She plays dual roles—Ursula, a perfectly ordinary suburban mom and the so-called Other Mommy, who looks exactly the same except for the creepy smile. 

The trailer opens with what appears to be an ordinary scene, with Chastain’s character coming home unexpectedly for lunch with her daughter Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark). All seems normal aside from the mom’s vacant look and her seeming inability to cook mac ‘n’ cheese. Bela can tell right away that something’s up. 

The film, directed by Rob Savage and written by Nathan Elston, is an adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel “Incidents Around the House.” It also stars Karen Allen as Bela’s grandmother along with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver and Rosie Anne O’Gorman. 

“Other Mommy” is set to hit theaters just in time for spooky season, on Oct. 9.

‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’

Marvel Entertainment on Tuesday released a final trailer for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” which splits its time between recapping the major events in the life of Peter Parker (Tom Holland) and teasing new footage.

The trailer opens with Peter reading from the letter he wrote, but never delivered, to MJ (Zendaya) after the events of the previous film, “Spider-Man: No Way Home.”

The visuals recount events from the first three films, including the death of Aunt May (Marisa Tomei) and the world forgetting that Peter Parker ever existed, causing him to lose his relationships with MJ and his best friend Ned (Jacob Batalon).

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” also stars Liza Colón-Zayas, Keith David and Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/The Punisher. The film releases in theaters July 31.

‘My Brilliant Career’

Netflix released a trailer Monday for its upcoming period piece, “My Brilliant Career,” based on the novel by Miles Franklin. 

The six-part Australian drama stars Philippa Northeast (“The Family Next Door”), Christopher Chung (“Slow Horses”) and Genevieve O’Reilly (“The Snowman”) and tells the story of a young girl growing up in the early 1900s, wanting to become a writer. Liz Doran (“Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries”) wrote and developed the series. A 1979 film adaptation of the novel starred Judy Davis (“A Passage to India”) and Sam Neill (“Jurassic World: Dominion”). 

“Sybylla doesn’t want a husband, she wants a story worth telling, and she’ll break every rule to write it,” a synopsis reads. “Meet the young woman writing her way out of the expectations of 1900.”

The series hits the streaming service Aug. 13.

‘Lego One Piece’

Netflix on Monday released a teaser trailer for yet another offering from the “One Piece” manga franchise—”Lego One Piece.” The animated collaboration between the makers of Lego and “One Piece” is a retelling of the events from the first two seasons of the live-action series. The actors from the live-action series—including Iñaki Godoy, Emily Rudd, Mackenyu, Jacob Romero, Taz Skylar and Mikaela Hooever—are voicing the animated characters. 

The two-part limited series releases Sept. 29, the third season of the live-action series comes out in 2027 and Season 1 of the animated “The One Piece” will debut in February, all on Netflix.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel Entertainment on Monday released the first full-length trailer for the upcoming crossover film “Avengers: Doomsday,” offering the first real look at Robert Downey Jr.’s return to the MCU as Doctor Doom.

The trailer for “Doomsday,” the first Avengers film since 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” features glimpses of Professor Xavier (Patrick Stewart) and Magneto (Ian McKellen) before cutting to the first official look at Downey in his metallic Doctor Doom mask.

The trailer also features footage of the Fantastic Four (Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Joseph Quinn) crossing over into the MCU proper to meet with the Winter Soldier (Sebastian Stan), Captain America (Anthony Mackie), and Ant Man (Paul Rudd).

The film’s plot remains a tightly-guarded secret, but the trailer offers some hints as Thor (Chris Hemsworth) warns a group of assembled heroes about an oncoming threat—possibly Doctor Doom, possibly something else.

“Avengers: Doomsday,” directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, releases Dec. 18.
