‘Supergirl’ to stream on HBO Max

Did you miss “Supergirl” in theaters this summer? The blockbuster will now stream on HBO Max on Sept. 10.  Milly Alcock (“House of the Dragon”) stars as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl. The film was directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira and was based on the graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. 

“When an unexpected and ruthless adversary strikes too close to home, Kara Zor-El, aka Supergirl, reluctantly joins forces with an unlikely companion on an epic, interstellar journey of vengeance and justice,” the film’s official synopsis reads.

James Corden to join Season 2 of ‘Dept Q’

Metro confirmed Wednesday that James Corden has joined Season 2 of Netflix’s “Dept. Q.” The British crime drama series premiered in 2025 and is based on the bestselling “Dept Q” novels by Danish author Jussi Adler-Olsen. 

Matthew Goode stars as Detective Carl Morck, who gets sent to work at Dept. Q in Edinburgh, Scotland after his partner is paralyzed and another officer from his previous department is killed. His new job is to solve cold cases with a crew of oddball investigators. Season 2 is expected to premiere in late 2027 or early 2028.

Apple TV shares first look at ‘Sisters Grimm’ Season 2

Apple TV shared a first look at Season 2 of its animated series “The Sisters Grimm” on Wednesday. The series is based on Michael Buckley’s book series of the same name. 

The show follows sisters Sabrina and Daphne Grimm, who are descendants from the “Brothers Grimm,” solve mysteries. Season 2 picks up a year after the sisters’ parents went missing. The girls try to solve the mysteries of Ferryport Landing, a place where fairy tales are real. 

The voice cast includes Ariel Winter as Sabrina, Leah Newman as Daphne, Laraine Newman as Relda, Abubakar Salim as Charming, Billy Harris as Puck and Harry Trevaldwyn as Mirror.  The six-episode series will premiere Oct. 2 on Apple TV.

Busan Film Festival features adaptations

Five of Netflix’s titles will be shown at the 31st Busan International Film Festival (BIFF), which runs from Oct. 6-15. This is the 10th year that Netflix has shown films at the festival. Two of the five titles are based on books. 

International crime thriller “The Blue Road” follows two detectives, played by Son Suk-ku and Eita Nagayama. Directed by Han Jun-hee, the series is based on the 2002 Korean-Japanese manhwa/comic titled “Blue Road,” created by Keishi Edogawa and Kwon Kaya.

In addition, the animated adaptation “In Waves,” which is based on the autobiographical graphic novel of the same name by AJ Dungo, will also be shown at the festival. The film, directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen, features the voices of Will Sharpe and Stephanie Hsu as teenagers falling in love and facing the consequences of a sudden illness. It will later premiere Dec. 11 on Netflix.
