‘Things We Never Got Over’

Prime Video on Thursday announced the trio lead for the adaptation of Lucy Score’s romance “Things We Never Got Over.” Molly Griggs is set to play lead Naomi Witt and her twin sister, Tina Witt; Tommy Martinez plays sheriff Nash Morgan; and Matthew Noszka plays his brother, Knox Morgan. 

Published in 2022, “Things We Never Got Over” is the first book in Score’s bestselling “Knockemout” series. The novel follows Naomi, a runaway bride whose estranged twin sister Tina steals her car, purse and phone, leaving Naomi stranded in the small Virginia town of Knockemout with an 11-year-old niece she didn’t know existed.

There, she meets Knox, a gruff local barber, setting up the grumpy-sunshine trope that made the series a fan favorite. Two sequels followed in 2023. 

Score is a bestselling romance author of over 70 books, including other series like “Riley Thorn,” which debuted in 2020, along with several standalone novels. 

This marks the first screen adaptation of one of Score’s works. A release date has not yet been announced. 

‘The Bell Jar’

Focus Features announced last week that filming has wrapped on Sarah Polley’s adaptation of “The Bell Jar,” a novel by Sylvia Plath. The studio also confirmed some long-rumored casting on the project. Musician Billie Eilish is set to lead the project, starring as Esther Greenwood, a talented young writer dissatisfied with her life and battling mental illness. Carey Mulligan plays her mother; Danielle Deadwyler is her doctor at the mental hospital, Dr. Nolan; Dylan Hawco is Buddy Willard, Esther’s former boyfriend; Lili Taylor is Jay Cee, Esther’s boss; Ella Beatty is Joan, a friend of Esther’s at the hospital; Maggie Kuntz is Doreen, a fellow intern at the magazine where Esther works; Ike Barinholtz is Lenny, Doreen’s boyfriend; and Connor Storrie is Marco, a man who tries to attack Esther. 

This is the second adaptation of Plath’s semi-autobiographical novel. The first came out in 1979, starring Marilyn Hassett as Esther and was directed by Larry Peerce. A release date has not yet been announced. 

‘Throttled’

While he might be leaving after one season in “Off Campus,” Josh Heuston is sticking around for another romance adaptation from Amazon MGM. He’s set to star as autoracer Noah Slade in the adaptation of Lauren Asher’s book “Throttled.” It’s part of her “Dirty Air” romance series. More casting is yet to come, as Noah falls for his rival’s sister, Maya Alatorre. The film will be directed by Nzingha Stewart.
