Jessica Chastain pulls out all the creepy looks and moves in the first trailer for her new horror film, “Other Mommy.”
In the film, she plays dual roles—Ursual, a perfectly ordinary suburban mom and the so-called Other Mommy, who looks exactly the same except for the creepy smile.
The trailer opens with what appears to be an ordinary scene, with Chastain’s character coming home unexpectedly for lunch with her daughter Bela (Arabella Olivia Clark). All seems normal aside from the mom’s vacant look and her seeming inability to cook mac ‘n’ cheese. Bela can tell right away that something’s up.
As lunch catches fire and sets off the family’s smoke alarm, dad Russ (Jay Duplass) rushes into the kitchen to put out the flames and chastise Bela for trying to cook alone. One jump-scare later and audiences will realize Bela didn’t just imagine her mom coming home early.
The film, directed by Rob Savage and written by Nathan Elston, is an adaptation of Josh Malerman’s novel “Incidents Around the House.” It also stars Karen Allen as Bela’s grandmother along with Dichen Lachman, Arian Moayed, Sean Kaufman, Adam Silver and Rosie Anne O’Gorman.
“Other Mommy” is set to hit theaters just in time for spooky season, on Oct. 9.
