‘Batman II’ adds Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Charles Dance

Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are making the leap from Marvel to the DC Universe, joining the cast of the upcoming “The Batman: Part II.”

Director Matt Reeves confirmed the casting Thursday with a couple of somewhat cryptic posts on X.

He posted a gif of Johansson from her 2013 film “Under the Skin”—hey, that’s an adaptation!—with the caption: “Next exit, Gotham… Welcome.”

Reeves’ second post on X showed a gif of a very intense-looking Stan with the caption: “In a Gotham state of mind… Welcome.”

Reeves hasn’t confirmed who the actors will play in the film, but Stan confirmed to Deadline earlier this week that he’ll be taking on the role of Harvey Dent, Gotham City’s district attorney who goes on to become the villain Two-Face.

Reeves also shared a gif of Charles Dance from his role in “Game of Thrones” with the caption: “Out of the shadows… Welcome.”

These aren’t the first comic book roles for Johansson and Stan. They have both been part of multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe projects, with Johansson playing Natasha Romanoff, aka the Black Widow, and Stan as Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier.

Reeves teased Thursday’s announcement the night with gifs of returning cast members from “The Batman,” including Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, Jeffrey Wright as Commissioner Gordon, Andy Serkis as Pennyworth, Colin Farrell as the Penguin, Jayme Lawson as Mayor Bella Reál and Gil Perez-Abraham as Officer Martinez.

Last week, Reeves shared still images from test footage from the film, including two photos of the Batmobile traveling on a snowy road and one that appears to show an explosion as seen from inside a vehicle.

“The Batman: Part II” is set to hit theaters Oct. 1, 2017.
