‘Legends’ renewed for second season
Netflix announced Monday that it’s renewed its crime thriller series “Legends” for a second season. It’s expected to go into production in 2027. The first season of the series premiered in May, starring Tom Burke, Steve Coogan, Hayley Squires and Aml Ameen. The story is inspired by the non-fiction book “The Betrayer: How an Undercover Unit Infiltrated the Global Drug Trade” by Guy Stanton and Peter Walsh. It tells of the British government’s attempts to stop drug smuggling across the country’s borders.
Season 2 of ‘The Testaments’ in production
The second season of “The Testaments” is back in production, according to a video posted to the dystopian drama’s Facebook page Monday. The video shows Chase Infiniti (who plays Agnes) as she’s joined by fellow cast members Lucy Halliday (Daisy), Rowan Blanchard (Shunammite), Mattea Conforti (Becka) and Brad Alexander (Garth).
“We’re just as eager for Season 2 as you. THE TESTAMENTS is officially back in production,” a caption on the video reads.
The series is a sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” both of which are based on novels by Margaret Atwood. The new series follows young women whose lives intersect in Gilead years after the events of “The Handmaid’s Tale.”
‘One Piece’ live-action series announces casting
Netflix announced Monday four new roles have been cast for the upcoming third season of “One Piece,” which is subtitled “The Battle of Alabasta.” Emilio Kayraya will star as Koza, Jamie Ward will be Pell, Omid Abtahi will play Toto and Nabeel Khan will play Chaka.
Iñaki Godoy stars as Monkey D. Luffy, a pirate captain searching for the legendary treasure known as the One Piece. Season 2 follows Luffy and the Straw Hats as they journey to the Grand Line.
In Season 3, the group heads to the desert kingdom Alabasta, which is on the verge of a civil war. Their goal is to help Princess Vivi save her homeland.
Season 3 is in production in Cape Town, South Africa. The returning cast includes Godoy as Monkey D. Luffy, Mackenyu as Zoro, Emily Rudd as Nami, Jacob Romero as Usopp, and Taz Skylar as Sanji, Charithra Chandran as Princess Vivi, Mikaela Hoover as Tony Tony Chopper, Joe Manganiello as Mr. 0, Lera Abova as Miss All Sunday, and Sendhil Ramamurthy as Alabasta King Nefertari Cobra.
‘Drowning in Paper Flowers’ to be adapted
Universal TV announced Friday that Marissa Jo Cerar is developing a series adaptation of “Drowning in Paper Flowers” by E.L. Westbury. The project is a partnership between Universal TV and Jenna Bush Hager’s Thousand Voices. The story follows Ruby Powell, a wife and mother of two living in an affluent community in Dallas. Her life seems perfect from the outside, but her husband is having an affair, her teenage daughter despises her and her young son has PTSD after being kidnapped as a toddler.
“As Ruby’s carefully crafted facade begins to crumble, the discovery of a body threatens to bring a terrible, long-held secret to light,” a synopsis of the book reads.
