‘Tony’ gets behind-the-scenes first look
A24 released a behind-the-scenes, first-look video of its upcoming Anthony Bourdain biopic “Tony” on Tuesday. The film is adapted from a chapter in Bourdain’s memoir, “Kitchen Confidential,” about the summer of 1975, when he decides he has a passion for food and cooking.
The film’s logline says: “A 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain travels to Provincetown and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that will shape the course of his life.”
Dominic Sessa stars as the famous chef alongside Emilia Jones, Dagmara Dominczyk, Rich Sommer, Stavros Halkias, Leo Woodall and Antonio Banderas.
Matt Johnson is directing the film and wrote it alongside Matthew Miller, Todd Bartels and Lou Howe. Bourdain died by suicide on June 8, 2018. “Tony” will premiere in select theaters Aug. 7 and nationwide Aug. 21.
‘Heartstopper’ podcast heads to Netflix
Shortly after Friday’s premiere of “Heartstopper Forever,” the finale of the teen romance franchise, Netflix is debuting its new “Heartstopper Forever: The Official Podcast.” The series will be hosted by Tia Kofi and will feature appearances by members of the “Heartstopper” cast, including Kit Connor, Joe Locke, Yasmin Finney and William Gao. Alice Oseman, who wrote the “Heartstopper” graphic novels, and Patrick Walters, executive producer of the show, will also appear on an episode. Both the final film and the podcast are set to debut July 17.
Kumail Nanjiani shares first look of ‘Sex Criminals’
Actor Kumail Nanjiani shared what appears to be a behind-the-scenes first look at the cast of the upcoming “Sex Criminals” comic book adaptation. The candid photo shared on Instagram shows Ayden Mayeri (Rachel), Imogen Poots (Suze), John Reynolds (Jon) and Nanjiani (Dane) sitting on a couch.
“Yes everyone is cute and you all just have to deal with it,” Nanjiani captioned the photo.
The series is based on the Image Comics title by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. Suze can stop time while she has sex and finds out that someone else, Jon, has similar powers.
Also starring in the series are Pamela Adlon, BD Wong and Ashleigh Cummings.
Production starts for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’
Filmmaker Andy Serkis announced Tuesday that production has begun for the next installment in “The Lord of the Rings” franchise. The film, subtitled “The Hunt for Gollum,” is expected to hit theaters Dec. 17, 2027. Serkis made the announcement in a video posted on X by Warner Bros. In the clip, Serkis can be seen wearing his motion-capture equipment as he makes his way throughout a studio, preparing to film.
The movie is said to take place between the events of “The Hobbit” trilogy and “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy. Anya Taylor-Joy, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Kate Winslet, Jamie Dornan and Leo Woodall are also starring.
Brainstorm Media to distribute ‘Without Blood’
Brainstorm Media announced Monday that it acquired the distribution rights to Angelina Jolie’s latest directorial effort, the war film “Without Blood.” Starring Salma Hayek, Demián Bichir and Juan Minujín, the film is an adaptation of Alessandro Baricco’s novel about the cost of war, trauma and memory. Jolie and Baricco worked together to write the script for the film. It’s set to hit U.S. theaters Sept. 18.
