Prime Video gave Stephen King fans their first look at Summer Howell as the iconic blood-drenched prom queen Carrie White on Monday. 

The streaming service released several images from its upcoming eight-episode adaptation of King’s debut 1974 novel, “Carrie.” While the story has been the subject of a handful of adaptations over the past five decades, filmmaker Mike Flanagan is behind the first television series based on the novel. 

“Misfit high-schooler Carrie White (Summer Howell) has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan),” a synopsis of the series reads. “After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social-media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.”

The 22-year-old Howell has appeared in a number of mostly horror projects, including “Night of the Reaper” and “Spirit in the Blood.” Sloyan, meanwhile, is a frequent Flanagan collaborator, having appeared in “The Life of Chuck” (another King adaptation), “The Fall of the House of Usher” (based on an Edgar Allen Poe story), “The Midnight Club” (a Christopher Pike adaptation), “Midnight Mass” and “The Haunting of Hill House” (loosely based on a book by Shirley Jackson). She’s also slated to appear in Flanagan’s upcoming project, an adaptation of “The Exorcist.”

Also appearing in the “Carrie” series will be Matthew Lillard, Amber Midthunder, Siena Agudong, Arthur Conti, Alison Thorton, Josie Totah, Joel Oulette and Thalia Dudek. 

There’s no specific release date for the new “Carrie” adaptation, but Prime Video says it’ll premiere this fall.
