Meet the Ingalls in early look at first few minutes of ‘Little House’

Netflix on Thursday shared a video of the first 3 minutes of the new “Little House on the Prairie” series, introducing viewers to the Ingalls family and their journey West.

The stars of the series—Alice Halsey (Laura), Skywalker Hughes (Mary), Crosby Fizgerald (Caroline/Ma) and Luke Bracey (Charles/Pa)—introduce the clip ahead of the July 9 premiere.

“These first few minutes is how we begin this new chapter of our story,” Halsey says.

The first look begins with the Ingalls family packing up in a covered wagon and leaving their home in the big woods of Wisconsin as they head west to the prairies. The family of four and their dog Jack spend their days traveling and evenings around camp reading, hunting, singing and enjoying each others’ company.

But the journey isn’t all pleasant as the family soon encounters the dangers of crossing a swiftly moving river and the threat of losing everything they own and each other.

“Little House on the Prairie” is an adaptation of the popular series of children’s books about Laura Ingalls Wilder’s life growing up in the wild Kansas prairie.

Laura Ingalls Wilder wrote eight autobiographical children’s books that would later go on to be adapted into the long-running “Little House on the Prairie” television series starring Melissa Gilbert and Michael Landon starting in 1974. The series also inspired spinoff books and other books compiled from Wilder’s writings after her 1957 death at age 90.

Netflix has renewed the series created and written by Rebecca Sonnenshine (“The Housemaid”) for a second season.

  1. For a couple of years during elementary school, those were the only books I’d check out during library time. The librarian begged me to widen my options, but I refused! I can’t wait to see the new adaptation.
