Studio MAPPA released trailers for three upcoming anime projects coming soon to Netflix, including adaptations of “Jimoto Saiko!” and “Beat & Motion,” as well as a third season for “Ranma 1/2.”
MAPPA, the studio behind acclaimed anime adaptations including “Chainsaw Man” and “Jujutsu Kaisen,” unveiled the three trailers during its 15th anniversary lineup presentation on June 19.
‘Jimoto Saiko!’
The first trailer adapts “Jimoto Saiko!,” a web manga by usagi and published online by Saizusha. The series is also being developed under the working title “Jimoto Saiko!,” which translates to “Hometown is the best!” The phrase serves as a mantra for main character Chanel-chan and her friends as they navigate the pandemonium of their beloved hometown. The manga series is notable for how it juxtaposes a cutesy art style with drugs, violence and other chaotic subjects.
“I am absolutely thrilled that the manga I just started randomly putting out there, calling it a ‘serialization’ on my own whim, is actually being turned into an anime,” usagi said in a news release from Netflix. “During the run, when I went bankrupt, my editor lent me a million yen out of their own pocket, and when things got seriously messed up, everyone around me supported me. That’s the only reason I was able to keep going. Thank you so much!”
A premiere date for the adaptation of “Jimoto Saiko!” has not yet been announced.
‘Beat & Motion’
The second trailer released by MAPPA is based on “Beat & Motion,” Naoki Fujita’s manga that was originally serialized online by Shonen Jump+ from February 2023 to January 2025. The story follows Tatsuhiko, a young man whose dreams of being a successful musician have faded, and Nico, a young woman whose own musical ambitions refuse to dim. The unlikely duo strike up a creative collaboration that takes both aspiring artists to new heights.
“Beat & Motion” is scheduled to arrive on Netflix in 2027.
‘Ranma 1/2’
The final trailer teases the return of “Ranma 1/2” for Season 3 in October. The anime is based on Rumiko Takahashi’s manga of the same name, which was first serialized in Weekly Shonen Sunday from 1987 to 1996.
“The series follows Ranma Saotome and Akane Tendo, who have been betrothed to each other by their parents. But Ranma faces a unique problem… Ever since he fell into the cursed springs of Jusenkyo while training in China, his body has acquired the peculiar trait of transforming into a girl when doused with cold water and reverting to a boy with hot water,” the official synopsis reads.
“Ramna 1/2” has been adapted before–an anime series originally ran from 1989 to 1992 and was followed by three theatrical films and 11 original video animations.
