Each Monday, Booked & Screened looks at film and television releases in the week ahead. We track what’s coming, what it’s based on and who’s bringing it to the screen. Below are the adaptations being released this week.
‘Cape Fear’
Streaming June 5 on Apple TV
Javier Bardem stars as Max Cady in “Cape Fear,” the series adaptation of John D. MacDonald’s “The Executioners.” It’s the third adaptation of the book after two films in 1962 and 1991.
Cady is a newly released ex-con who’s been proven innocent after spending 17 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Now he’s out for revenge against his lawyers played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. The series, which also stars Ron Perlman, is set to hit Apple TV on June 5.
‘The Vampire Lestat’
Streaming June 7 on AMC
The third season of “Interview with a Vampire”—renamed “The Vampire Lestat”—follows the fallout after Lestat (Sam Reid) tells the world he’s a vampire and creates a public persona. He does so to rebel against the story told by journalist and fellow vampire Daniel (Eric Bogosian) in his new book “Interview with the Vampire.”
Based on the Vampire Chronicles series by Anne Rice, “The Vampire Lestat” is set to premiere on AMC on June 7. The series also stars Jacob Anderson as Louis and Jennifer Ehle as Lestat’s mother Gabriella.
