The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

‘The Housemaid’ to take the stage

British production company The Melting Pot is bringing “The Housemaid” to the theater. Paul Feig adapted Freida McFadden’s 2022 thriller novel to a film in 2025 starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried. The film is also getting a sequel, “The Housemaid’s Secret,” based on the second book in McFadden’s bestselling thriller series. It will premiere in theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.

Sci-fi novel ‘Skyward’ getting adapted to TV series

“One Piece” producer Tomorrow Studios TV announced it is adapting Brandon Sanderson’s sci-fi novel “Skyward,” the  first book in the “Cytoverse” franchise, is getting adapted into a series. Sanderson said, “I’ve been working on the Skyward series for nearly a decade, and to have a partner like Tomorrow Studios to help bring this story to television is a dream come true.”

‘Off Campus’ is #1 on Prime Video

Prime Video romance “Off Campus,” based on Elle Kennedy’s book “The Deal,” is number 1 on Prime Video. Amazon MGM Studios posted on X: “AND THE CROWD GOES WILD. Off Campus is officially #1 on @primevideo worldwide!!” The sexy college romp stars Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli.

Anne Hathaway to produce ‘Ella Enchanted’ series

People magazine confirmed that Disney+ is developing a series inspired by the 2004 film “Ella Enchanted.” Anne Hathaway, who starred as Ella, will produce the show, which is originally based on Gail Carson Levine’s 1997 book of the same name. According to Deadline, the series will follow Ella’s time in boarding school. 

‘Very Young Frankenstein’ is rising

“Very Young Frankenstein,” starring Zach Galifianakis, Dolly Wells and Spencer House, is coming to FX and Hulu. The series is based on “Young Frankenstein,” which was inspired by Mary Shelley’s “Frankenstein.” Executive producers Stefani Robinson, Taika Waititi, Garrett Basch, Mel Brooks, Michael Gruskoff and Kevin Salter are behind the show.

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’ #2 in Netflix’s Top 10

Netflix announced that “Remarkably Bright Creatures” is #2 in Netflix’s Top 10 movies, with 20.3 million views and #1 in nine countries. Sally Field stars as Tova, who forms a bond with  Cameron (Lewis Pullman) and introduces him to Marcellus the octopus at the aquarium they both work at. The film is an adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling, 2022 novel and premiered on May 8.

Netflix to stream popular Japan Broadcasting Corporation series 

Starting June 22, Netflix will stream Japanese Broadcast Corporation NHK series “Descending Stories: A Life in Rakugo,” which is based on a Japanese manga series by Haruko Kumota, and “Tokyo Salad Bowl,” based on a Japanese manga series by Kuromaru.

‘One Hundred Years of Solitude: Part Two’ coming soon 

“One Hundred Years of Solitude: Part Two” will  premiere on Netflix on Aug. 5 and will include seven episodes. Also, the grand finale of the adaptation will premiere on Aug. 26. The show is based on the 1967 novel by Colombian author Gabriel García Márquez that centers on the Buendía family. “Each episode of this second part is like a film. We took the series to another level aesthetically, narratively, and through sound and music to build a much more cinematic and emotional ending,” director Laura Mora said.  

ICYMI: Jodie Comer to star in HBO’s ‘The Chain’

Jodie Comer will star in “The Chain,” a limited series by Damon Lindelof (“Lanterns,” “The Leftovers”) based on the 2019 book of the same name by Adrian McKinty. The story centers on a mother whose child has been kidnapped.
