Prime Video announced Monday that it has ordered a series adaptation of Rebecca Yarros’ book “Fourth Wing.”

Meredith Averill (Locke & Key) will write the script, and serve as showrunner and executive producer. Lisa Joy (Westworld) will direct the pilot. 

The romantasy drama tells the story of Violet Sorrengail as she’s forced by her mother to enter Basgaith War College. There she must prove herself against hundreds of other candidates seeking to become dragon riders. 

“Fourth Wing” is the first book in Yarros’ “Empyrean” series, which includes the sequels “Iron Flame,” “Onyx Storm” and two other as-yet unreleased books. 

“I’m thrilled to be working with this dedicated, experienced team and grateful for their passion for both the books and the readership behind them,” Yarros said. 

Yarros; Michael B. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo (Outlier Society); Jonathan Nolan, Joy and Athena Wickham (Kilter Films); and Liz Pelletier and Sherryl Clark (Premeditated Productions) are also set to executive produce.
