This week, a bunch of books took their first big steps toward the screen. Here’s a roundup of the teasers and trailers that dropped this week.
‘Cape Fear’
It’s been nearly 20 years since Javier Bardem creeped audiences out with his role in “No Country for Old Men,” but the new trailer for “Cape Fear” released Thursday proves he’s still got it. He plays Max Cady is a newly released ex-con who’s been proven innocent after spending 17 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Now he’s out for revenge against his lawyers played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
The series, which also stars Ron Perlman, is set to hit Apple TV on June 5.
‘I Will Find You’
Netflix released the trailer for the adaptation of Harlan Coben’s 2023 novel “I Will Find You.”
The suspenseful thriller follows a father, David Burroughs (Sam Worthington), who is serving life in prison for the murder of his own son. Innocent, he learns that his son might still be alive. To prove it, he must break out of prison.
“I Will Find You” is the first Netflix and Coben series to take place in the United States. His other Netflix series have been set in countries across Europe and in four different languages.
The series will premiere on June 18.
‘Elle’ Season 1
The teaser for Prime Video’s “Elle” opens in Bel Air in 1995 at a pool party at Elle’s (Lexi Minetree) home. The teen is surrounded by friends in pastels and grateful for her life. The new series is a prequel to the Reese Witherspoon film “Legally Blonde,” which was based on the 2001 book of the same name by Amanda Brown. The prequel has already been picked up for a second season. “Elle” premieres on July 1.
‘Propeller One-Way Night Coach’
Apple released the trailer for John Travolta’s film “Propeller One-Way Night Coach.” The Apple Original film is an adaptation of Travolta’s 1997 children’s book of the same name. The film follows a young airplane aficionado, Jeff (Clark Shotwell), and his mother (Kelly Eviston-Quinnett) on a one-way cross-country trip to Hollywood. The long night flight stops in Pittsburgh, Chicago, Kansas City, Denver and Los Angeles.
Travolta narrates, appears and also directed the film, which will debut on Apple TV on May 29. First, it will premiere at the Cannes Film Festival.
‘A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder’ Season 2
Pippa Fitz-Amobi finds herself embroiled in another dangerous mystery in the first trailer for Season 2 of “A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder.” Season 2 of the Netflix series adapts the second book in Holly Jackson’s young adult trilogy titled “Good Girl, Bad Blood.” The new season featuring six episodes debuts May 27.
‘The Odyssey’
Audiences got their first glimpse of Matt Damon in action as Odysseus in the first full trailer for Christopher Nolan’s adaptation of “The Odyssey.” The star-packed trailer offers a look at the epic, 10-year journey Odysseus takes to return home to his wife Penelope (Anne Hathaway) and son Telemachus (Tom Holland) after the Trojan War.
The film also stars Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Jon Bernthal, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, Himesh Patel, Lupita Nyong’o, Will Yun Lee, Mia Goth, Samantha Morton and Elliot Page.
It is set to hit theaters July 17.
‘Tony’
A24 released the first trailer for its Anthony Bourdain biopic, “Tony,” partly inspired by his popular 2000 memoir, “Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly.” The film’s logline says: “A 19-year-old Anthony Bourdain travels to Provincetown and stumbles into the chaotic world of a restaurant kitchen, setting off a summer that will shape the course of his life.”
Dominic Sessa stars as the famous chef.
“Tony” will premiere in August 2026.
