‘Lord of the Flies’
Streaming May 4 on Netflix

Netflix’s adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 classic, “Lord of the Flies” follows a group of boys stranded on a tropical island after a plane crash. One of the boys, Ralph (Winston Sawyers), tries to lead the boys in the hopes of survival and rescue. But when Jack (Lox Pratt) starts a rebellion, any hope for structure breaks down and devolves into violence. It premieres on Netflix starting May 4.

‘The Other Bennet Sister’
Streaming May 6 on Britbox

Mary Bennet (Emily Bruccoleri) seeks love in this “Pride and Prejudice” reimagining.  Adapted from the 2020 novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow, “The Other Bennet Sister” follows middle sister Mary. Often overshadowed by her older sisters, beautiful Jane and clever Elizabeth, and her two troublemaking and impulsive younger sisters, Kitty and Lydia, it’s finally Mary’s turn to find a man. The series originally aired on BBC and is coming to BritBox on May 6.

‘The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek’
Streaming May 7 on Netflix

“The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek” is a six-part series based on Søren Sveistrup’s 2018 novel of the same name. Season 1 of the series premiered Sept. 29, 2021. Titled “The Chestnut Man: Hide and Seek,” the sequel is based on Sveistrup’s upcoming novel “Hide and Seek,” due out July 7. The series premieres May 7 on Netflix.

‘The Terror: Devil in Silver’
Streaming May 8 on AMC+ and Shudder

“The Terror: Devil in Silver,” based on the book of the same name by Victor LaValle, is the third season of the horror anthology series. It will star Dan Stevens, Judith Light and CCH Pounder. It’s set to premiere on AMC+ and Shudder on May 7. 

‘Amadeus’
Streaming May 8 on Starz

The series “Amadeus,” is an adaptation of Peter Shaffer’s 1979 play. It was previously adapted into the Oscar-winning 1984 film starring Tom Hulce. Will Sharpe stars as 25-year-old Wolfgang ‘Amadeus’ Mozart and Paul Bettany as jealous composer Antonio Salieri. The five-part series will stream on Starz on May 8. 

‘Remarkably Bright Creatures’
Streaming May 8 on Netflix

The story, an adaptation of Shelby Van Pelt’s bestselling, 2022 novel, centers on widow Tova (Sally Field). Tova works at an aquarium and forms a bond with Marcellus the octopus. She gets   to know wanderer Cameron (Lewis Pullman), who works at the aquarium with her. The pair are going through different traumas– Tova is a widow whose son died years ago and Cameron says he moved to the area to find his father. “Remakably Bright Creatures” will premiere on May 8.

‘The Sheep Detective’
In theaters May 8

Amazon MGM Studios released the latest trailer for its new comedy, “The Sheep Detectives.” The film stars Hugh Jackman as George, a shepherd who loves reading detective stories to his sheep. But when a mystery occurs on the farm, the sheep jump into action to try to solve the crime. The film, which also stars Nicholas Braun, Nicholas Galitzine, Emma Thompson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Chris O’Dowd, Regina Hall, Patrick Stewart, Bella Ramsey and Rhys Darby, arrives in theaters May 8.
