Greta Gerwig’s “Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew” will premiere in theaters on February 12, 2027 and on Netflix on April 2, 2027.
The Academy Award-nominated filmmaker is the writer and director of the film, which is based on C.S. Lewis’ 1955 novel “The Magician’s Nephew,” the origin story for Narnia.
The cast includes newcomers David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell alongside movie stars Daniel Craig, Meryl Streep, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Ciarán Hinds, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, Denise Gough and Susan Wokoma.
Gerwig, a longtime fan of Lewis’ novels, was eager to enter the author’s world.
“I was a child when I first read ‘The Magician’s Nephew,’ and I fell in love with the gorgeously improbable but completely brilliant concept of a cosmic lion singing the world of Narnia to life,” she said. “I didn’t know that I would grow up to make films, but a universe built out of music is an idea that always lived in my heart. It is the honor of a lifetime to be asked to imagine it into being.
There are seven “Chronicles of Narnia” books in the series, including “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe,” “The Horse and His Boy,” “Prince Caspian: The Return to Narnia,” “The Voyage of the Dawn Treader,” “The Silver Chair” and “The Last Battle.”
The “Narnia” books have been adapted several times for television and film. However, this marks the first adaptation of “The Magician’s Nephew.”
