The trailer for “Verity” has readers excited and viewers somewhat creeped out, sending Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel back on reading lists.
The story follows Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson), who moves in with married couple Verity (Anne Hathaway) and Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) to help ghostwrite for the former, a bestselling author who is incapacitated due to an accident. Lowen uncovers disturbing autobiographical notes and develops an attraction to Verity’s husband, finding herself drawn into a mystery that makes her question what is real.
The film and book seem to share DNA with other recent beloved thriller adaptations. Fans of “Gone Girl,” “The Girl on the Train,” “Big Little Lies” and “The Housemaid” will no doubt clamor to read and watch the film. Twisty, relationship-driven thrillers are always in style.
If secrets that are hidden behind closed doors, marriages that aren’t what they seem and women who may or may not be telling the truth are your thing, there are several upcoming adaptations that will scratch that itch.
Here are some upcoming domestic thriller shows and films to keep you guessing.
