Audiences got their first, creepy look at the latest adaptation of a Colleen Hoover book, “Verity,” starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.
The story follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) as she moves in with Verity (Hathaway) and Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to help ghostwrite for the former, a bestselling author.
The teaser trailer opens with Lowen silently entering a dimly lit room where the ailing Verity Crawford is sleeping. Lowen joins Jeremy as he sits on a couch watching television.
What begins as a steamy makeout session between the two turns spooky as Jeremy turns into Verity, who has apparently bitten Lowen, covering her face in blood.
A summary from Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a “seductive, psychological thriller.”
“After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy … and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.”
“Verity,” which is directed by Michael Showalter and also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner, is set to hit theaters October 2.
This is the fifth Hoover title to be adapted, including one, “Reminders of Him,” that came out earlier this year. “Confess” was made into a seven-part limited series in 2017, “It Ends with Us” was in theaters in 2024 and “Regretting You” came out in 2025.
