Warner Bros. announced Wednesday that “Fifty Shades of Gray” actor Jamie Dornan will be playing a younger version of Viggo Mortenson’s Aragorn in an upcoming addition to the “Lord of the Rings” franchise.
Leo Woodall (Vladimir) is also set to join the cast of “The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum” as Halvard, a character who’s not in the original books by J.R.R. Tolkien.
Halvard and Aragorn—identified in the Warner Bros. announcement by his alias, Strider—are both Dúnedain rangers of the north.
Previously announced cast includes Kate Winslet, who plays a character named Marigol. Ian McKellen returns as Gandalf, Lee Pace as Thranduil and Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins.
Andy Serkis directs and reprises his role as Gollum/Sméagol.
The film is set to hit theaters December 17, 2027.
