Jenna Ortega stars as Klara, an artificial friend hired to help a family in a dystopian world divided by class and genetic enhancement. Taika Waititi directed the film, which also stars Amy Adams, Simon Baker, Steve Buscemi, Mia Tharia and Natasha Lyonne.

Sony Pictures acquired Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel “Klara and the Sun” in 2020—a year before it was published.

The trailer was shown at CinemaCon, an annual trade show for the film industry hosted by Cinema United. It runs through April 16, so more adaptation news is expected. We will update once the trailer is released.

Ortega, known for starring as Wednesday Addams, has previously starred in an adaptation—as Katie Torres in 2021’s “Yes Day,” based on the children’s book of the same name by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. She will next co-star with Taylor Russell in a new adaptation of “Single White Female,” based on the 1990 thriller “SWF Seeks Same” by John Lutz. The 23-year-old will also produce.
