This week, a bunch of books took their first big steps toward the screen. Here’s a roundup of the teasers and trailers that dropped this week
‘Ramayana’
A new teaser trailer gave audiences a glimpse of what’s expected to be Bollywood’s biggest release of the year—“Ramayana.” Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Yash and Sai Pallavi, the film is an adaptation of the ancient epic poem about Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu in Hinduism. The film is expected to hit theaters near the holiday of Diwali, in November.
‘All of a Sudden’
Japanese filmmaker Ryusuke Hamaguchi makes his French-language debut in the trailer for “All of a Sudden.” The drama stars Virginie Efira and Tao Okamoto and is based on the book “When Life Suddenly Takes a Turn,” a nonfiction book of letters between a philosopher with terminal cancer and a medical anthropologist. There’s no U.S. release for the film yet.
‘Supergirl’
DC released its first full trailer for the new “Supergirl,” starring Milly Alcock as the titular hero and bringing back audience favorite, Krypto the dog. The film also stars Jason Momoa as Lobo and Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll. “Supergirl” comes to theaters June 26, 2026.
‘Cape Fear’
Javier Bardem, Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson star in the trailer for a remake of “Cape Fear.” This adaptation of John D. McDonald’s “The Executioners,” however, is a series set to hit Apple TV on June 5, 2026. Barden plays Max Cady, a newly released ex-con who’s out to get revenge on the prosecutors who put him behind bars. Ron Perlman also stars.
‘The Gentleman’
“The Gentleman” is another revenge flick featuring Ron Perlman, this time adapted from Carlos Augusto Casas’ book, “Ya no quedan junglas adonde regresar.” It tells the story of an American veteran, Theo, who seeks revenge after Olga, a prostitute who serves as a kind of therapist to him, is killed. The film hit theaters April 14, 2026.
‘The Ghost in the Shell’
Japanese studio Science SORU released a trailer for its new anime adaptation of “The Ghost in the Shell.” Set in a near-future fictional Japanese city, the long-running franchise, which includes manga, film, TV and game series, follows the members of a group tasked with solving and preventing crime. The series is set to air in July on Prime Video in the United States.
