The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

‘Five-Star Weekend’ gets premiere date

Author Elin Hilderbrand announced that her Peacock series “Five-Star Weekendwill premiere on July 16. She also shared the first photos of the cast, which includes Jennifer Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, D’Arcy Carden and Timothy Olyphant.

Sally Ride series to star Kristen Stewart

Amazon MGM Studios greenlit a limited series called “The Challenger” about the first female astronaut to go to space, Sally Ride. Kristen Stewart is set to star in the adaptation of “The New Guys” by Meredith Bagby. 

Finlay Donovan is getting a TV series

Author Elle Cosimano announced Tuesday that Lang Fisher and Tina Fey are adapting her book “Finlay Donovan is Killing It” for Peacock. She said: “Readers, it has been so hard keeping this under wraps. I am elated! I am floating!!! This is the announcement dreams are made of, and this team is everything!!!” The darkly funny series follows recently divorced mother Finlay who has been mistaken for a contract killer. There are five books in the series.

Jane Fonda joins ‘The Correspondent’

Two-time Academy Award winner Jane Fonda will star as retired lawyer Sybil Van Antwerp in the adaptation of Virginia Evans’ bestselling novel “The Correspondent.” Fonda is also one of the film’s executive producers. Lionsgate won a seven-studio bidding war for the story.

‘Scarpetta’ gets second season

On Tuesday, Jamie Lee Curtis, Nicole Kidman and the rest of the cast announced that Season 2 of “Scarpetta” is already in production. The Patricia Cornwell adaptation hit No. 1 on the platform.

‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ wraps

The sequel to Prime Video’s “Red, White & Royal Blue” has wrapped production. “Red, White & Royal Wedding” adapts the bonus chapter from the collector’s edition of Casey McQuiston’s novel, focusing on the wedding of Bea, Prince Henry’s (Nicholas Galitzine) sister.

‘Lord of the Flies’ Netflix premiere date

The newest adaptation of William Golding’s 1954 book, “Lord of the Flies” will premiere on Netflix on May 4. Written by “Adolescence” co-creator Jack Thorne, the series first premiered on BBC in early February. 

‘Jack Ryan Ghost War’ 

Amazon MGM Studios presents Tom Clancy’s “Jack Ryan Ghost War,” which will premiere on Prime Video on May 20. The cast includes John Krasinski, Wendell Pierce, Michael Kelly and Sienna Miller. The film is based on author Clancy’s characters.  

Possible ‘Bridgerton’ spinoff

After the success of “Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story,” Bridgerton executive producer Shonda Rhimes told Craig Melvin on his “Glass Half Full” podcast who could be next. 

“I’ve always said that I thought that if we were gonna do something like that, Violet would be a great person to tell the story about, the Bridgerton mom,” she said.

‘The Red Hangar’ wins three Malaga awards

The Red Hangar” took home multiple honors at Spain’s Málaga Festival, which highlights Spanish-language cinema. The film took home the Málaga Audience and Critics’ Jury Awards along with Best Actor for Nicolas Zárate. The black-and-white film, based on investigative journalist Fernando Villagrán’s book, “Shoot the Flock,” tells the story of Chile’s 1973 coup. The film is directed by Juan Pablo Sallato and also stars Aron Hernández and Boris Quercia. It will hit U.S. theaters in April 2026. 

‘Brilliant Minds’ casting news

Season 2 of “Brilliant Minds” returns to NBC on March 27. The final six episodes will feature guest stars Ed Begley Jr., Anne Archer, Ana Ortiz and Mamie Gunner. Zachary Quinto stars as the main character, Dr. Oliver Wolf, and is inspired by the biographical books by the real-life Dr. Oliver Sacks. 

Maya Hawke to star in ‘The God of the Woods’

Netflix announced that “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke will appear in a series adaptation of Liz Moore’s 2024 novel “The God of the Woods.” The streamer said Hawke will “play Judy Luptack, a smart and quietly determined investigator assigned to unravel the disappearance of a young girl from a summer camp in upstate New York.”

First look of ‘What Happens at Night’

Filmmaker Martin Scorsese and actor Leonardo DiCaprio offered a first-look photo of DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence in the film “What Happens at Night.” Scorsese’s favorite leading man commented on the photo that the film, based on Peter Cameron’s 2020 novel of the same name, “is now in production.” The Gothic horror film also stars Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson and Kared Harris. 

‘This Summer Will Be Different’ heads to Netflix

Netflix is adapting the best-selling romance “This Summer Will Be Different” by Carley Fortune as a 10-episode series. The 2024 book tells the story of Lucy, who falls in love with her best friend’s brother over the course of several summers on Canada’s Prince Edward Island.
