Read ahead: Adaptations March through mid-April

Scarpetta” by Patricia Cornwell

Based on Cornwell’s long-running 29-book series, the crime thriller follows forensic pathologist Dr. Kay Scarpetta (Nicole Kidman) as she uses her expertise to solve brutal murders. The first season of the series is based on the book “Post Mortem.” It premieres March 11 on Prime Video. 

Reminders of Him” by Colleen Hoover

The latest Hoover adaptation tells the story of Kenna (Maika Monroe) as she tries to rebuild relationships after serving a prison sentence. The romantic drama, which also stars Tyriq Withers, comes to theaters March 13.  

The Miniature Wife” by Manuel Gonzales

This comedy stars Matthew Macfadyen as Les, a man who somehow manages to shrink his wife, Lindy, played by Elizabeth Banks. The accident causes the couple to reevaluate their relationship. The series doesn’t hit Peacock until April 9, but since it’s based on a short story, you should be able to finish this one fairly quickly. 

For medium-pace readers 

Imperfect Women” by Araminta Hall

This psychological thriller published in 2020 centers on the mysterious death of Nancy (Kate Mara). As the investigation unfolds, it exposes fractures in a decades-long friend group that also includes Elisabeth Moss and Kerry Washington. The series premieres on Apple TV on March 18. 

Project Hail Mary” by Andy Weir

One of the most anticipated adaptations of the year, it stars Ryan Gosling as Ryland Grace, a former science teacher who wakes up alone on a spaceship light years from Earth and with no memory of who he is or how he got there. As his memory slowly returns, Grace realizes he has been sent on a mission to solve a cosmic mystery threatening the survival of humanity: a substance that is causing the sun to die. The film arrives in theaters March 20. 

“The Devil’s Star” by Jo Nesbø

Jo Nesbø’s 2003 novel “The Devil’s Star” is coming to the screen as “Detective Hole,” starring Tobias Santelmann as troubled detective Harry Hole opposite Joel Kinnaman as his adversary, corrupt cop Tom Waaler. Øystein Karlsen and Anna Zackrisson direct. The series premieres March 26 on Netflix. 

For readers who like to take their time 

The Testaments” by Margaret Atwood

This sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale” visits Gilead 15 years after the events of Atwood’s first installment. Aunt Lydia (Ann Dowd) returns as one of three primary characters. Chase Infiniti and Rowan Blanchard also star. The series premieres April 8.
