The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.
‘The Mist’
Stephen King’s 1980 novella “The Mist” has inspired several adaptations. Mike Flanagan, who collaborated with King on adaptations of “Gerald’s Game,” “The Life of Chuck” and “Doctor Sleep” will write and direct the screenplay for Warner Bros.
‘Boys of Tommen’
Prime Video is adapting the first two books of Chloe Walsh’s TikTok-famous “Boys of Tommen” series. Poppy Cogan (“A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder”) will act as lead writer and executive producer on the project.
‘The Griffin Sisters’ Greatest Hits’
Amy Sherman-Palladino (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”) will adapt Jennifer Weiner’s 2025 novel for Universal. Weiner’s 2002 book “In Her Shoes” was previously adapted into a 2005 film starring Cameron Diaz, Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine.
‘Girls Like Girls’
Focus Features released the trailer for singer Hayley Kiyoko’s adaptation “Girls Like Girls” on Tuesday. The film is based on her 2023 book, which was inspired by her 2015 song of the same name.
‘Berlin Noir’
Apple TV announced that Colin Firth (“Bridget Jones’s Diary”) has joined the cast of “Berlin Noir” based on Philip Kerr’s bestselling novels. Jack Lowden also stars.
‘Mrs. Dalloway’
Neon acquired distribution rights to “Clarissa,” a modern retelling of Virginia Woolf’s 1925 novel, “Mrs. Dalloway.” Nigerian filmmaker Chuko Esiri wrote the screenplay and will co-direct with his twin brother, Arie Esiri.
‘Seance on a Wet Afternoon’
Matthew Macfadyen will star opposite Rachel Weisz in an adaptation of Mark McShane’s 1961 novel. The book was previously adapted into a 1964 film starring Kim Stanley and Richard Attenborough.
‘Lights Out’
Netflix is adapting the 2024 dark romance “Lights Out” by Navessa Allen into a TV series. Hannah Schneider (“Reign”) will serve as showrunner and executive producer on the adaptation.
‘The Masque of the Red Death’
Benedict Wong and Franz Rogowski join the cast of A24’s “The Masque of the Red Death.” Mikey Madison and Léa Seydoux star. The film, directed by Charlie Polinger, is based on the 1842 short story by Edgar Allan Poe.
‘Up to No Good’
Glenn Close and “Bridgerton” star Claudia Jessie join the cast of Channel 4’s “Up to No Good.” The series is based on the short story collections “An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good” and “An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed” by Helene Tursten. The series will also star Gloria Obianyo, Anita Dobson, Ben Crompton, Meera Syal and Penelope Wilton.
