Actor and singer Hayley Kiyoko makes her directorial debut in an adaptation of her best-selling novel, “Girls Like Girls,” a trailer for which was released this week.
Focus Features released the trailer Tuesday set to Kiyoko’s single by the same name.
Maya Da Costa plays Coley, the new girl in town who’s welcomed into a group of teenagers by Sonya, played by Myra Molloy. The two form a friendship that soon turns to something more despite Sonya seemingly being in a relationship with a boy.
“You’re like, really pretty,” Sonya tells Coley.
“I think you’re really pretty, too,” Coley replies, as they realize their feelings for each other in the coming-of-age story.
But, like many teen romances, jealousy grows with Sonya’s boyfriend, played by Levon Hawke, and things turn sour.
“I know that you like me,” Coley tearfully tells Sonya. “You kissed me.”
“I guess I’m like that with all my friends,” Sonya says.
The film also stars Zach Braff as Coley’s widower dad as well as Hunter Dillon, Remy Marthaller, Maya Ford and Alozie LaRose.
“Girls Like Girls” is scheduled to hit theaters June 19.
