Watch: Murder mystery comes to Louisville in ‘Glitterball City’ trailer

HBO unveiled a trailer Thursday for a new two-part documentary revisiting a 2010 murder case in Louisville, Ky., that’s sure to give true crime fans a new obsession.

The limited series, “Murder in Glitterball City,” is based on the non-fiction book “A Dark Room in Glitter Ball City” by Louisville resident David Dominé.

The trailer opens with an apparent murder confession recorded by a man who says he’s holding his boyfriend captive. The story is told through interviews with Dominé along with police, attorneys and a cast of community members who seem like they’d be comfortable in the eclectic and haunted streets of New Orleans.

The series follows the investigation and subsequent trials of Joey Janis and Jeffrey Mundt, a couple who blamed each other for the murder of James Carroll. Carroll’s body was found in the basement of Janis and Mundt’s Victorian home in historic Old Louisville.

Both episodes of the docuseries premiere on HBO on Feb. 19 and will be available to stream on HBO Max. The show is directed by Fenton Bailey and Randy Barbato, who both serve as executive producers for “RuPaul’s Drag Race” and directed 2003’s “Party Monster” based on James St. James’ memoir “Disco Bloodbath.”
