Amazon MGM Studios released two clips from the upcoming film “Verity.”
Based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel, the film stars Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.
The thriller follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) as she moves in with Verity (Hathaway) and Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to ghostwrite for Verity, a bestselling author. Verity has been incapacitated by an accident.
A summary from Amazon MGM Studios describes the film as a “seductive, psychological thriller.”
“After Lowen uncovers what appears to be Verity’s chilling autobiographical notes, she wrestles with the disturbing and twisted confessions about Verity’s husband Jeremy … and finds it hard to separate fiction from reality, manipulation from attraction, and opportunity from obsession.”
The first clip shows a shocked Lowen meeting a comatose Verity.
The second shows Lowen, convinced Verity is pretending to be in her condition, threatening to steal the author’s perfect life.
The film, which is directed by Michael Showalter and also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner, is set to hit theaters Oct. 2.
“Verity” is the fifth Hoover title to be adapted, following “Reminders of Him,” which came out earlier this year. “Confess” was made into a seven-part limited series in 2017, “It Ends with Us” was in theaters in 2024 and “Regretting You” came out in 2025.
