The trailer for “Verity,” based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel, dropped Tuesday.

In the clip, Jeremy Crawford (Josh Hartnett) tells Lowen Ashleigh (Dakota Johnson) that she is the only one who could finish his wife Verity’s (Anne Hathaway) book. 

Jeremy shows Lowen that his wife, who is a bestselling author, has been incapacitated by an accident. 

“The doctors don’t think she’ll ever walk or talk again,” he says.

Lowen moves in with the married couple to work on the book and uncovers Verity’s disturbing autobiographical notes. She also develops an attraction to Jeremy, finding herself drawn into a mystery that makes her question what is real.

On Monday, Amazon MGM Studios released photos and the movie’s poster. 

The film and book seem to share DNA with other recent popular domestic thriller adaptations. Fans of “Gone Girl,” “The Girl on the Train,” “Big Little Lies” and “The Housemaid” will no doubt clamor to see the film. Twisty, relationship-driven thrillers are always in style.

The thriller will premiere in theaters on Oct. 2.
