Horror story ‘Return to the Motherfreaking Fun Factory’ optioned
Author Neil Kleid’s upcoming horror book “Return to the Motherfreaking Fun Factory” has been optioned for adaptation before it hits the shelves.
Kleid said Tuesday, “So, uh…here’s some news. It’s a long road, of course, but thrilled to be working on this with @russellhollander , @brendandeneen and @blackstonepublishing on this. Super crazy this is happening. But in the meantime, you can preorder the book, out October 6th!”
The logline for the story says, “Ten years ago, five children were lured into the dark machinations of a twisted, whimsical toymaker, forced to compete for a grand prize—all the toys they could ever dream of—and, as happened, their lives. Today four of those kids—now morally ambiguous young adults—seek revenge on the insane man who terrorized them, and once again find themselves trapped inside his factory of horrors, all while attempting to save the fifth member of their group, who ‘won’ the contest … but was left behind.”
‘Off Campus’ star Stephen Kalyn joins ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’
Stephen Kalyn, known for his roles as Dean Di Laurentis in “Off Campus” and Greg in “Gen V” Season 2, is joining the sequel to “The Housemaid.”
“The Housemaid’s” official social media account announced Monday that Kalyn will play Brock, Millie’s lawyer boyfriend, in “The Housemaid’s Secret.”
The sequel will continue the story of Millie, played by Sydney Sweeney, and is based on “The Housemaid’s Secret,” the second book in Freida McFadden’s bestselling thriller series. Paul Feig is set to return to direct the follow-up. The sequel is coming to theaters on Dec. 17, 2027.
Thriller ‘A Couple of Lies’ to premiere Oct. 30
Swedish psychological crime thriller “A Couple of Lies” is hitting Netflix on Oct. 30. Based on the novel of the same name by Stefan Ahnhem, the story follows two couples who swap homes for vacation and things go terribly wrong.
Emma Appleton, Fares Fares, Frida Gustavsson and Jakob Oftebro will star in the four-part series. Kasper Barfoed (“The Nurse”) directed the series, which was adapted by Amanda Högberg and Axel Stjärne.
‘The Black Hamptons’ has been renewed
Paramount+’s “The Black Hamptons” has been picked up for a third season. The logline for the series says, “In this adaptation of Carl Weber’s novel, the Britton family faces high tensions with the newly arrived Johnsons in the upscale Black town of Sag Harbor, N.Y.”
It stars Lamman Rucker, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Elise Neal, Brian White, Karon Riley and Mike Merrill. The series first aired in 2022.
Hand-drawn animated feature ‘Tangles’ features all-star cast
The voice cast for “Tangles” features Abbi Jacobson, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Bryan Cranston, Beanie Feldstein, Seth Rogen and Samira Wiley. Through black-and-white animation, the film explores the realities of Alzheimer’s. The film also features the voices of Pamela Adlon, Sarah Silverman, Bowen Yang, Wanda Sykes, Phil Rosenthal, Adam Shapiro, Pat Finn and Sugar Lyn Beard.
“We have found in IFC a partner who connected deeply with our film and understands what makes TANGLES so special. I’m thrilled to be working with a team that is putting their whole heart behind its release, and I couldn’t be more excited for what’s ahead,” director Leah Nelson said.
The film is based on Sarah Leavitt’s Alzheimer’s-themed graphic novel.
‘Skeletons’ has wrapped filming
Horror film “Skeletons,” which is based on the short story “Fail-Safe” by author Philip Fracassi, has wrapped filming. From producer J.J. Abrams and director JT Mollner, the film stars Brie Larson, Kyle Gallner, Daithí Ó hAragáin, John Goodman, Keith Carradine, Ione Skye and Willa Fitzgerald.
The story follows a young boy who finds out his parents are hiding a secret.
