‘The Last Sunrise’
Streaming Aug. 26 on Prime Video

“The Last Sunrise” premieres Aug. 26 on Prime Video. Based on the novel of the same name by Anna Todd, the story follows college student Ry (Maia Reficco), who lives with a chronic illness and travels to Mallorca with her mother (Eva Longoria). Ry finds new friends and meets Julián (Fernando Lindez) and starts a romance, hiding her health condition.   

‘& Sons’
In theaters Aug. 27 

Bill Nighy (“The Wild Robot”) stars as famous, reclusive writer Andrew Dyer in “& Sons.” He is estranged from his sons, but the recent loss of a friend inspires him to call them home. Johnny Flynn (“The Idiots”) and George MacKay (“Sense and Sensibility”) star as Andrew’s oldest sons. Noah Jupe (“The Death of Robin Hood”) plays their half-brother. The drama is an adaptation of David Gilbert’s 2013 novel, co-written by Oscar-winner Sarah Polley (“Alias Grace”) and directed by Pablo Trapero (“ZeroZeroZero”). The film is expected to hit theaters Aug. 27.

‘The Dog Stars’
In theaters Aug. 28

Jacob Elordi, Margaret Qualley, Josh Brolin and Guy Pearce appear in the first trailer for the upcoming post-apocalyptic film “The Dog Stars.” It was adapted from Peter Heller’s 2012 novel of the same name. The story centers on the world after a pandemic wipes out most of humanity. Elordi stars as a pilot living in an abandoned hangar with his dog and an ex-Marine (Brolin). They navigate the post-pandemic landscape—and its threats. It premieres in theaters Aug. 28.

‘The Whisper Man’
Streaming Aug. 28 on Netflix

Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Robert De Niro star in Netflix’s series “The Whisper Man.” Based on the novel by Alex North, the story follows a widowed crime writer whose son is abducted. He asks his former police detective father, with whom he is no longer in touch, for help. They find a connection to the serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” The series will premiere Aug. 28 on Netflix.

‘Dark Matter’ Season 2
Streaming Aug. 28 on Apple TV

Sci-fi series “Dark Matter” follows the story of Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton), a scientist and professor who is abducted into an alternate version of his life. Jennifer Connelly plays Daniela, Jason’s wife, and Oakes Fegley plays their son. Alice Braga, however, plays Amanda Lucas, Jason’s girlfriend from the alternate version of his life. “Season 2 picks up with the Dessens as they settle into a quiet life in a world that finally seems safe until the unimaginable forces them to run once again,” Apple’s summary of the series reads. Season 2 will premiere Aug. 28 on Apple TV.

‘The Secret Woman’
Streaming Aug. 28 on Netflix

“The Secret Woman” is based on the novel of the same name written by Anna Ekberg—the pseudonym used by  Danish writer duo Anders Rønnow Klarlund and Jacob Weinreich. The film follows Louise Andersen, who lives on a Norwegian island with her partner and runs a cafe. The logline says: “Suddenly, her idyllic world shatters when a strange man enters the café and claims that she is not who she believes she is. He asserts that she is a woman who disappeared from Denmark three years earlier, leaving her husband searching for her ever since.” It will premiere Aug. 28 on Netflix.

‘All the Truth in My Lies’
Streaming Aug. 28 on Netflix

Spanish limited series “All the Truth in My Lies” is based on the 2017 novel by Elísabet Benavent. It starts as a fun, carefree vacation, but soon secrets and hidden crushes are revealed, leading to chaos. The show stars Daniel Ibáñez, Itziar Manero and Ricardo Gómez. It will premiere Aug. 28 on Netflix.
