First look at Nina Dobrev, Tyler Hoechlin in ‘It Happened One Summer’
Nina Dobrev shared photos Tuesday of her new blonde look for the role of Piper in “It Happened One Summer.” The film is an adaptation of Tess Bailey’s 2021 novel of the same name. Peter Hutchings is directing the movie, with Christina Mengert and Joseph Muszynski as screenwriters. Dobrev also shared photos of co-stars Tyler Hoechlin, Virginia Gardner and Gavin Leatherwood.
Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce, Claire Foy to star in ‘Ink’
On Monday Netflix announced that award-winning director Danny Boyle is directing the film “Ink,” based on the Tony-winning play by award–winning playwright and screenwriter James Graham. Jack O’Connell, Guy Pearce and Claire Foy will star.
The story centers on an eccentric group of writers who helped usher in a new era of tabloid journalism It will premiere in select theaters on Dec. 11 before hitting Netflix in the U.S. and Latin America on Jan. 8, 2027. It will first be shown at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival.
First look at Amy Poehler, Hugh Laurie in ‘Dig’
Amy Poehler, Hugh Laurie, Geraldine Viswanathan, Antonia Thomas and Fina Strazza are to star in the new comedy series “Dig.” Michael Schur and Poehler co-wrote the pilot episode and executive produced the series, which is based on the 2023 novel “Excavations” by Kate Myers. The author will also executive produce the series.
Peacock gave a first look at the series Monday, which follows a group of archaeologists and their students who are working at a site in Greece. They find a rare artifact, which sets them on a wild journey. It will premiere on Nov. 23 on Peacock.
Apple TV picks up Alfonso Cuaron drama ‘Ascension’
Apple TV announced Monday that it has picked up the new drama “Ascension” from Oscar winner Alfonso Cuarón. Inspired by the novel “Last Days” by Adam Nevill, “Ascension” is a psychological horror thriller starring and executive produced by Caitríona Balfe (“Outlander.”) The series will be co-showrun by Natalie Erika James and Christian White and the series is written by James, White, Alfonso Cuarón and Carlos Cuarón.
The show centers on documentary filmmaker and recently divorced mother Rose, who gets wrapped up in a project on the 20th century cult known as the Church of Ascension.
Look: ‘Verity’ poster and photos released
On Monday, Amazon MGM Studios shared photos and the poster for “Verity,” which is based on Colleen Hoover’s 2018 novel. The movie stars Anne Hathaway as Verity, a bestselling author who has been incapacitated by an accident; Josh Hartnett as her husband Jeremy; and Dakota Johnson as Lowen Ashleigh, a writer who is hired to finish Verity’s book. The trailer for the psychological thriller dropped Tuesday.
ICYMI: ‘Girls like Girls’ to stream on Peacock Aug. 16
Actor and singer Hayley Kiyoko made her directorial debut in an adaptation of her bestselling novel, “Girls Like Girls,” which hit theaters in June. The film stars Maya Da Costa as Coley, the new girl in town, who is welcomed by Sonya, played by Myra Molloy. The two form a friendship that soon turns into something more despite Sonya seemingly being in a relationship with a boy (Levon Hawke).
The film also stars Zach Braff as Coley’s widowed dad as well as Hunter Dillon, Remy Marthaller, Maya Ford and Alozie LaRose. It will premiere on Peacock on Aug. 16.
