‘You Are Here,’ starring Claire Foy, Matthew Macfadyen, greenlit
On Thursday, Starz and BBC greenlit “You Are Here,” a love story based on author David Nicholls’ novel of the same name. Nicholls, author of “One Day,” has also written the adaptation, which will be directed by Lenny Abrahamson. Matthew Macfadyen and Claire Foy star as Michael and Marnie, who meet through a friend and go off on a walk together. Sparks fly.
Nicholls says: “The intention with the novel was to write a close-up study of a relationship, but set against this magnificent landscape, and that’s our ambition here too; to make something both intimate and epic, funny and dramatic, a romantic comedy with real emotion. We can’t wait to bring Marnie and Michael’s journey to the screen.”
First look: WWE’s Damian Priest in ‘Steps’
Netflix shared a first look at WWE star Damian Priest in its new take on “Cinderella,” “Steps.” “Steps” tells the little-known story of Cinderella’s (Amanda Seyfried) evil stepsisters, Lilith (Ali Wong) and Margot (Stephanie Hsu). Lilith steals the Fairy Godmother’s (Bette Midler) magic wand and takes over the famous ball with Margot.
Nikki Glaser, Daniel Radcliffe, Young Mazino, and Peter Dinklage also star. Netflix Animation Studios’ first fully in-house animated feature will stream on Nov. 20.
‘Young Sherlock’ S2 adds Olivia Williams, Indira Varma, Sophie Skelton, Aidan Gillen
Prime Video announced new series regulars joining the cast of Season 2 of “Young Sherlock,” including Olivia Williams (“Dune: Prophecy”), Indira Varma (“The Other Bennet Sister”), Sophie Skelton (“Outlander”) and Aidan Gillen (“Game of Thrones”).
Hero Fiennes Tiffin and Dónal Finn star in the series from director Guy Ritchie. Season 2 is currently in production. Through its first 28 days of release, Season 1 reached 45 million viewers and ranks among the Top 10 Prime Original seasons of all time.
‘Robin Hood’ S2: Graeme Thomas King to be series regular
MGM+ announced Wednesday that Graeme Thomas King will be a regular on Season Two of “Robin Hood.” He stars as Prince John, the conniving younger son of King Henry II. Production on Season Two of the series is currently underway in Serbia. The series is produced by Lionsgate Television, with showrunner John Glenn, director Jonathan English, and Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman as executive producers.
A24 UK acquires the rights to Josh Silver’s ‘Fruit Fly’
Josh Silver’s novel “Fruit Fly” is being adapted into a TV series. The book, which is out in the U.K. and will be released in the U.S. and Canada on Aug. 4, is the author’s debut adult novel. He is known for his young adult dystopian “HappyHead” series.
He will be an executive producer on the series, which follows writer Mallory, who is trying to improve her career and is inspired by a young addict. Silver posted on Instagram: “It’s been a surreal few weeks—I’m incredibly grateful and very excited. Thanks to everyone at A24.”
‘Reacher’ S5: Jay Baruchel, Ciara Bravo, Amanda Ip, Kevin Durand join cast
Season 4 of “Reacher” premieres on Aug. 12, but Season 5 is currently in production. Jay Baruchel, Ciara Bravo, Amanda Ip and Kevin Durand will be joining Alan Ritchson in the adaptation of Lee Child’s “Jack Reacher” novels. Season 5 is based on “Make Me,” Child’s 20th book in the series.
Crown Publishing teases ‘Big Little Lies’ sequel book plot
Crown Publishing and Liane Moriarty shared on Instagram teasers for the plot of “Big Little Truths,” the sequel to Moriarty’s “Big Little Lies.” The post shows the book’s cover and says: “Madeline was right, Jane remembers, Renata fought back, Bonnie stayed quiet, Celeste knows the truth.” Will this translate to Season 3 of the HBO series? We will find out. The book will be released on Aug. 25.
