This week, a bunch of books took their first big steps toward the screen. Here’s a roundup of the teasers and trailers that dropped this week.

‘The Shards’

FX on Friday shared a trailer for its upcoming series “The Shards,” an adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis semi-autobiographical novel of the same name. “The Shards,” which started out as a serialized audiobook in 2023, is a story about Bret (Igby Rigney) set in 1980s Los Angeles. The horror story follows wealthy teens at a prep school who have everything they could want—fancy cars, access to drugs and the craziest parties. But when new student Robert (Homer Gere) joins the group, suspicions begin to mount. Also starring Hayes Warner, Graham Campbell and Kaia Gerber, the series premieres on Hulu on Aug. 5.

‘My Life with the Walter Boys’ Season 3

The trailer for the third season of “My life with the Walter Boys” dropped Wednesday.

This season follows Jackie (Nikki Rodriguez) and her continuing love triangle with the two Walter brothers, Cole (Noah LaLonde) and Alex (Ashby Gentry), in the aftermath of her heartfelt confession to Cole in the Season 2 finale. Ranch patriarch George Walter (Marc Blucas) is in the hospital and his health is a big plot point of Season 3. If Jackie’s life weren’t complicated enough, Season 3 introduces a new potential match in childhood friend Eliot (Naveen Paddock). 

Season 3 premieres on Netflix on Aug. 6.

‘One Hundred Years of Solitude’ Season 2

The world of Macondo is returning to screens Aug. 5 with the second season of “One Hundred Years of Solitude.” Netflix on Friday released a trailer for the series, which is an adaptation of Gabríel Garcia Márquez’s novel, a hallmark of the magical realism genre. 

“Macondo is changing. New inhabitants, its connection to the world and the destiny of the Buendía family will hasten the town’s downfall,” a synopsis of the series reads. 

“One Hundred Years of Solitude” stars Viña Machado, Jesus Reyes and Claudio Cataño, and is directed by Laura Mora Ortega, Alex Garcia Lopez and Carlos Moreno.

‘Don’t Move’

Impractical Productions—the crew behind the wildly popular hidden-camera series “Impractical Jokers”—released a trailer for its first feature film, “Don’t Move,” on Wednesday. The horror creature film is an adaptation of the book by the same name by James Murray, who also produces the film. “Don’t Move” is about a church group on its annual retreat in the Ozark wilderness that meets with a terrifying and deadly predator. 

“Deep in the first, wrapped in a labyrinth of webs, the group is pursued by a terrifying prehistoric arachnid that hunts by vibration. When every step could be their last, they only have one choice: Don’t Move,” a synopsis reads. 

The film is directed by Maclain Nelson and stars Lyndsy Fonseca, Tom Cavanaugh, Rob Riggle, Russell Vitale, Hunter King and Joseph Lee Anderson. It hits theaters Sept. 11.

‘The Whisper Man’

Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Robert De Niro appeared Tuesday in Netflix’s trailer for “The Whisper Man.” Based on the novel by Alex North, the story follows a widowed crime writer whose son is abducted. He asks his former police detective father, with whom he is no longer in touch, for help. They find a connection to the serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.” The series is set to be released Aug. 28.

‘Musafir Cafe’

Also Tuesday, Netflix released a trailer for its new romance series, “Musafir Cafe.” Based on the novel of the same name by Divya Prakash Dubey, the story follows three “musafirs,” which is a name for travelers, played by Vikrant Massey, Vedika Pinto and Mahima Makwana. Their lives intersect in unexpected ways in this romantic drama, which takes place in Bhopal and Mussoorie in India. The series is created and written by Sharanya Rajgopal and directed by Ruchir Arun. It premieres July 24.

‘All the Truth in My Lies’

Netflix on Monday released the trailer for “All the Truth in My Lies.” The Spanish limited series is based on the 2019 novel by Elísabet Benavent. It will premiere Aug. 28. The miniseries follows six best friends going on an RV road trip to celebrate a bachelorette party. They are all holding secrets from each other, which causes tensions on the trip.
