Director Matt Reeves revealed “The Batman Part II” has been delayed to February 2028, but he softened the blow with a first glimpse of star Robert Pattinson’s return to the cape and cowl.

Reeves announced in a video posted to Vimeo that the sequel to March 2022’s “The Batman” will now release Feb. 18, 2028. The release date had originally been announced as 2025, before being delayed to Oct. 2, 2026, and then further pushed back by Warner Bros. to Oct. 1, 2027.

The latest delay will allow Reeves more time to work on the film’s post-production, Variety reported.

The Vimeo post also included camera test footage of Pattinson wearing the latest version of the Batman costume.

Reeves previously shared still images from test footage of the Batmobile traveling on a snowy road in May.

“The Batman Part II” also stars Sebastian Stan, who Deadline initially reported would be playing Harvey Dent, the Gotham district attorney who becomes the villain Two-Face, but his role has not been officially confirmed by the actor or the studio. Subsequent rumors indicate he may be playing serial killer Victor Zsasz. Scarlett Johansson has also been cast in an unknown role, with rumors indicating she might be playing Gilda Gold, Dent’s wife, or the villainess Poison Ivy.

Charles Dance, Brian Tyree Henry and Sebastian Koch are also signed on to star in the sequel.
