This week, a bunch of books took their first big steps toward the screen. Here’s a roundup of the teasers and trailers that dropped this week.

‘Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’

Netflix released a new trailer for the second stage of the series “Steel Ball Run JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.” Set in the 19th-century United States, the anime series follows Johnny Joestar, a former jockey who lost the use of his legs in an accident. He forms a partnership with outlaw Gyro Zeppeli and the pair enter a cross-continental horse race for a grand prize. It is based on Hirohiko Araki’s 2004 manga “JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Part 7–Steel Ball Run, Vol. 5.”  Yasuhiro Kimura directs and Damon Mills and Kaiji Tang star. The series initially premiered March 20 on Netflix, and the 2nd stage will be released September 25.

‘Momo and the Time Thieves’

Signature Films released a trailer Friday for the fantasy film “Momo and the Time Thieves,” an adaptation of a novel by Michael Ende, who also wrote “The Neverending Story.” The film stars Alexa Goodall (“Robin and the Hoods”) as Momo, a young girl who meets a magical tortoise who takes her to the administrator of time, played by Martin Freeman (“The Hobbit” trilogy). Together, they must save Earth from the mysterious Men in Grey, who are stealing time from people. 

Christian Ditter (“Love, Rosie”) wrote and directed the film. It’s set to hit theaters in Britain on Aug. 14, but doesn’t have a U.S. release date yet. 

‘Bad Apples’

Saoirse Ronan (“Atonement”) stars as Maria, a teacher at the end of her rope, in the upcoming dark comedy “Bad Apples.” She stars opposite Eddie Waller as Danny, a troublemaking student whom she ends up kidnapping and locking away in her basement. Suddenly, her class becomes much more pleasant and she’s being recognized for her efforts. Jonatan Etzler directed “Bad Apples” and Jess O’Kane wrote the script based on the book by Rasmus Lindgren. The film’s world premiere was in September at the Toronto International Film Festival and doesn’t yet have a U.S. release date.

‘& Sons’

Bill Nighy (“The Wild Robot”) stars as famous, reclusive writer Andrew Dyer in the new trailer for “& Sons.” He is estranged from his sons, but the recent loss of a friend inspires him to call them home. Johnny Flynn (“The Idiots”) and George MacKay (“Sense and Sensibility”) star as Andrew’s oldest sons. Noah Jupe (“The Death of Robin Hood”) plays their half-brother. The drama is an adaptation of David Gilbert’s 2013 novel, co-written by Oscar-winner Sarah Polley (“Alias Grace”) and directed by Pablo Trapero (“ZeroZeroZero”). The film is expected to hit theaters Aug. 27.

‘Snoopy Presents: There’s No Place Like Home, Snoopy’

Snoopy and his friends must go on an adventure to find his beloved dog house after it’s accidentally sold in a yard sale in this new trailer for “Snoopy Presents: There’s No Place Like Home, Snoopy.” The TV special, featuring the voices of Riley Vargas, Terry McGurrin and Rob Tinkler, is set to premiere July 31 on Apple TV. The streamer, which is home to adaptations based on the Peanuts comic strip, is also planning to release the animated film “Snoopy Unleashed” in 2027.

‘You+Me – Against the World’

Prime Video on Wednesday released the trailer for its French young adult film “You+Me – Against the World.” The adaptation of Emma Green’s bestselling trilogy stars Vittoria Di Savoia as Alma and Lucas Barski as Vadim, students trying to resist each other. The film, directed and written by Manon Gaurin and produced by Originals by Tresor, will premiere on the streamer on Sept. 18.

‘Dune: Part Three’

Warner Bros. released a full-length trailer for the third installment of the “Dune” series starring Timothée Chalamet (“Beautiful Boy”) and Zendaya (“The Odyssey”). Based on Frank Herbert’s book “Dune Messiah,” “Dune: Part Three” is set to be released in theaters December 18. Returning are Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Charlotte Rampling. Anya Taylor-Joy and Robert Pattinson are joining the all-star cast.

‘The Final Problem’

Netflix released a trailer for its Spanish-language limited series “The Final Problem,” an adaptation of a novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte.

“In the spring of 1959, 13 people find themselves stranded by a violent storm on a small island off the coast of Mallorca,” a synopsis of the series reads. “No one could imagine what is about to unfold at the secluded hotel where they are staying: Elisa Mander, a quiet English tourist, is found dead. What initially appears to be a suicide soon reveals itself to be something far more disturbing a murder.”

The film, which stars Jose Coronado, María Valverde, Martiño Rivas, hits the streamers September 25.

‘Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog’

NWave Studios released a new trailer for its second film inspired by author Chris Grine’s “Chickenhare” graphic novels. The new offering, “Chickenhare and the Secret of the Groundhog,” is a 3D animated film that follows the titular protagonist (voiced by Jordan Tartakow) and his friends, Abe (Joe Ochman) and Meg (Laila Berzins), as they search for the Groundhog with the Backwards Facing Face. They hope the groundhog’s ability to reverse time will help them stop the Tree of Life from dying and the subsequent extinction of the Harechickens. The film, directed by Benjamin Mousquet, had its world premiere at the 2025 Annecy International Animated Film Festival. It’s expected to hit U.S. theaters later this year.

‘Love Me Tender’

Also released this week was the trailer for Peccadillo Pictures’ French-language film “Love Me Tender.” The film is an adaptation of Constance Debre’s novel of the same name. Vicky Krieps (“The Girl in the Spider’s Web”) is a lawyer who decides to leave her husband and falls in love with a woman. Her ex, played by Antoine Reinartz (“L’Abandon”), fights her over custody of their son, seeking to damage their relationship. Anna Cazenave Cambet wrote and directed the film. “Love Me Tender” doesn’t have a wide U.S. release date but did screen in October at The American French Film Festival after debuting at Cannes in May 2025.
