‘The Nightingale’ to premiere in March instead of February
The adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s bestseller “The Nightingale” will premiere a month later. Originally set to premiere on Feb. 12, the new launch date is March 19. The film stars Dakota and Elle Fanning as French siblings, Vianne Mauriac and Isabelle Rossignol, navigating life under Nazi occupation.
Hannah shared the news on social media: “So much here to post about. Both Elle and Dakota nominated for Emmys this year!!! And their first time working together on a movie is The Nightingale! WOW! Our new date is March 19, which I think is fabulous. I know what I’m doing for Spring Break 2027. Put it on your book club calendars. Share the news!!!”
Morgan Spector, Rebecca Hall in talks to star in ‘The Secret of Secrets’
Morgan Spector, of “The Gilded Age,” is in talks to star in the adaptation of Dan Brown’ “The Secret of Secrets.” He will reportedly play Professor Robert Langdon, a role originally played by Tom Hanks in 2000’s “Angels and Demons.” Rebecca Hall, of the recent Starz series “The Listeners,” is in talks to star opposite Spector. The series was acquired by Netflix, with Brown and Carlton Cuse as co-creators and executive producers.
Netflix posts ‘Whisper Man’ poster
On Thursday, Netflix shared the poster for “The Whisper Man,” which stars Adam Scott, Michelle Monaghan and Robert De Niro. Based on the novel by Alex North, the story follows a widowed crime writer whose son is abducted. He asks his former police detective father, with whom he is no longer in touch, for help. They find a connection to the serial killer known as “The Whisper Man.”
‘We Were Liars’ Season 2 in production
Prime Video announced Thursday that Season 2 of “We Were Liars” is in production. The new season takes place in 1999 and is a prequel following the Sinclair sisters in their teens. It is based on the book “Family of Liars” by E. Lockhart. Parker Lapine, Peyton List, Elysia Roorbach, Madison Wolfe, Josh Dallas and Costa D’Angelo will star.
All 5 ‘Hunger Games’ films to return to theaters in September
Lionsgate and Fathom Events is bringing all five “Hunger Games” films returning to theaters from Sept. 3 to 7. Each film will include a sneak peak at the upcoming “Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” which will be released in theaters Nov. 20. The popular films are based on the bestselling book series by Suzanne Collins. “The Hunger Games” will return to theaters on Sept. 3, “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire” will return on Sept. 4, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” will return on Sept. 5, “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” on Sept. 6 and “The Hunger Games: The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes” will return on Sept. 7.
More actors join Damson Idris in ‘The Lord’s Day’
Harry Lawtey, Arsema Thomas, Timothy Spall, Gemma Whelan and Sophie Willan are joining Damson Idris in “The Lord’s Day.” The spy thriller is based on Michael Dobbs’ novel. Idris stars as a spy inside Parliament during a siege. He has to figure out if he can save his country. The series is written by Jonathan Brackley and Sam Vincent and directed by Ben Chanan.
First look at ‘You + Me Against the World’
Prime Video announced the premiere date and shared first-look photos for its first French Young Adult Prime Original film: “You + Me Against the World.” The adaptation of Emma Green’s bestselling trilogy stars Vittoria Di Savoia as Alma and Lucas Barski as Vadim, as students trying to resist each other. The film, directed by Manon Gaurin and produced by Originals by Trésor, will premiere on Sept. 18.
‘& Sons’ to premiere in theaters Aug. 27
Bill Nighy stars as famous, reclusive writer Andrew Dyer. He is estranged from his sons, but the recent loss of a friend inspires Andrew to call them home. Johnny Flynn and George MacKay star as Andrew’s oldest sons. Noah Jupe plays their half-brother. The dramatic film is an adaptation of David Gilbert’s 2013 novel, co-written by Oscar-winner Sarah Polley and directed by Pablo Trapero.
