Comic books, novels and literary characters once again proved to be awards-season powerhouses as adaptations earned nominations across nearly every major category at the 2027 Primetime Emmy Awards.

Prime Video’s “Spider-Noir” led the way among book and comic adaptations with 11 nominations. Based on the Marvel Comics character, the series earned recognition for title design, original music and lyrics, cinematography, production design, prosthetic makeup, music composition, sound editing, sound mixing, special visual effects, stunt coordination and stunt performance.

HBO’s “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms,” adapted from George R. R. Martin’s novel, earned a nomination for Outstanding Drama Series.

Apple TV’s “Slow Horses,” based on Mick Herron’s “Slough House” novels, continued its awards momentum with Gary Oldman earning a nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series for playing Jackson Lamb. Jack Lowden was nominated for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series as River Cartwright, while Jonathan Pryce received an Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series nomination for his portrayal of David Cartwright.

Apple TV’s “Margot’s Got Money Troubles,” adapted from Rufi Thorpe’s novel, was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series. Elle Fanning earned an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series nomination for playing Margo Millet, while Michelle Pfeiffer was recognized in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series category for playing Shyanne Millet. Nick Offerman also earned a Supporting Actor nomination for his role as Jinx Millet.

Peacock’s “All Her Fault,” based on Andrea Mara’s novel, received a nomination for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series. Sarah Snook was nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for her performance as Marissa Irvine, and the production also earned a nomination for Outstanding Casting for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Netflix’s “Remarkably Bright Creatures,” adapted from Shelby Van Pelt’s debut novel, earned Sally Field an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie nomination for her performance as Tova Sullivan. The film also was nominated for Outstanding Movie.

Netflix’s adaptation of Emily Henry’s romance novel “People We Meet on Vacation” also received an Outstanding Movie nomination.

Netflix’s “Death By Lightning,” based on Candice Millard’s nonfiction book “Destiny of the Republic,” received a nomination for Outstanding Cinematography for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for the episode “Destiny of the Republic.” Nick Offerman also earned an Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie nomination for his portrayal of Chester Arthur.

Prime Video’s “Jack Ryan: Ghost War,” based on Tom Clancy’s iconic character, earned an Outstanding Movie nomination.

Besides “Spider-Noir,” other comic book adaptations were nominated. Disney+’s “Wonder Man,” starring Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, earned an Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series nomination for playing Simon Williams. Prime Video’s animated superhero series “Invincible,” based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman, Cory Walker and Ryan Ottley, earned Steven Yeun an Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance nomination for voicing Mark Grayson.

Literary characters also continued to make their mark. Hulu’s “The Testaments,” based on Margaret Atwood’s sequel to “The Handmaid’s Tale,” earned Chase Infiniti an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series nomination for playing Agnes. Netflix’s “Bridgerton,” adapted from Julia Quinn’s romance novels, earned Julie Andrews an Outstanding Character Voice-Over Performance nomination for narrating as Lady Whistledown. 

Mariska Hargitay will host the 2026 Emmys, which will air on NBC and Peacock on Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. E.T.
