Elliot Page is set to be involved in the new “The Odyssey” adaptation directed by Christopher Nolan. The film, which comes out July 17, is based on Homer’s epic poem of the same name. “The Odyssey” follows the events of the Trojan War and Odysseus’ 10-year-long journey home.
After much speculation, it was finally revealed that Page will play the supporting role of Sinon, a Greek soldier who is a cousin of Odysseus. The film has many other big names attached, with Matt Damon as Odysseus, Tom Holland as Telemachus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope.
Page built a career playing characters drawn from books and comics, starring in well-known films such as “Juno” and TV series including “The Umbrella Academy.”
Let’s take a look at some of Page’s popular adaptation roles.
‘X Men’ franchise
Page first played Kitty Pryde in “X-Men: The Last Stand” in 2006. The character was co-created by John Byrne and Chris Claremont, first appearing in the comic book “The Uncanny X-Men” #129.
“The Last Stand” is the last installment of the original X-Men trilogy, centering around the government creating a cure for mutants, causing serious issues for both mutants and humans alike. It stars Ian McKellen as Magneto, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and Famke Janssen as Jean Grey/Phoenix.
Page returned as Kitty in “X-Men: Days of Future Past” in 2014. The film stars Jackman as Wolverine, who is sent back in time to change history and save the world from robots called Sentinels.
‘Into the Forest’
Based on a 1996 novel of the same name by Jean Hegland and directed by Patricia Rozema, “Into the Forest” stars Page as Nell and Evan Rachel Wood as Eva in 2015. It’s a Canadian apocalyptic drama in which two orphaned sisters survive in a forest after a massive power outage.
The film was nominated for a few awards, including a Leo Award nomination for Best Visual Effects in a Motion Picture in 2016.
‘The Umbrella Academy’
“The Umbrella Academy” follows a group of estranged superhero siblings who must reunite to prevent the apocalypse. The show was based on a comic book series of the same name, written by Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. The series was created by Jeremy Slater and Steve Blackman.
Page stars as Vanya/Viktor or Number Seven, a violinist who was estranged from his siblings and has no apparent powers. In reality, the character possesses the ability to convert sound waves into physical force, but his father suppressed these powers citing them as too dangerous and powerful. The character was originally called Vanya prior to Page coming out as transgender and was then changed to Viktor, a plot point in the third season. The series also stars Tom Hopper as Luther and David Castañeda as Diego.
The series was nominated for many awards over the course of its run, with Page winning a Saturn Award in 2022 for Best Supporting Actor in a Streaming Television Series.
‘Tales of the City’
In 2019, Netflix released “Tales of the City,” which caught up with several of the original cast members from the 1993 miniseries and introduced some new ones—including Page. The series of novels by Armistead Maupin started as a newspaper series in the San Francisco Chronicle in 1976.
Page portrays Shawna Hawkins, the adopted daughter of original character Mary Ann (Laura Linney). The show follows Mary Ann, a middle aged woman who returns to her home city of San Francisco and reconnects with old friends. Created by Lauren Morelli, the series won a GLAAD Media Award in 2020 for Outstanding Limited Series.
