Three adaptations crack Netflix’s Top 10 lists
“Remarkably Bright Creatures,” the movie based on Shelby Van Pelt’s 2022 novel is No. 5 and “In Her Shoes,” the 2005 movie based on Jennifer Weiner’s 2002 book, is No. 8 on Netflix’s Top 10 film list this week. “Man on Fire,” the series based on A.J. Quinnell’s novels “Man on Fire” and “The Perfect Kill,” is No. 5 on Netflix’s Top 10 TV list in 36 countries this week.
‘Spider-Noir,’ ‘Off Campus’ in Prime Video’s Top 10 list
Two adaptations are No. 1 and No. 2 in the Top 10 on Prime Video in the United States: “Spider-Noir” and “Off Campus.” “Spider-Noir,” based on “Spider-Man Noir: Hard-Boiled Origins” by David Hine, premiered on May 27 and “Off Campus,” based on “The Deal” by Elle Kennedy, on May 13. Andie MacDowell and Kevin Bacon join ‘Beach Read’
Actors Andie MacDowell and Kevin Bacon are joining Phoebe Dynevor and Patrick Schwarzenegger in “Beach Read.” The film is an adaptation of the 2020 book of the same name by Emily Henry, author of “People We Meet on Vacation.” The novel centers on January (Dynevor), a romance writer, and her rival, Gus (Schwarzenegger), a literary fiction author. The writers are both struggling with different kinds of loss. They decide to swap genres for the summer while living in neighboring beach houses. Will they swap anything else? Stay tuned.
Netflix reveals full cast of ‘God of the Woods’
Netflix has announced the full cast of “The God of the Woods.” Joining previously announced cast members Maya Hawke and Kerry Condon are Damon Gupton, Ella Rubin, Susannah Perkins, Benjamin Walker, Nell Fisher, and Autumn Molina. The series is based on the 2024 bestselling novel by Liz Moore. The author and screenwriter Liz Hannah are working together as co-showrunners, writers and executive producers.
Paramount beats out Focus, Sony for ‘Midnight Library’
Paramount beat out Focus and Sony for the rights to “The Midnight Library.” Based on the bestselling novel by Matt Haig, the story follows Nora, a depressed woman who regrets many of her life choices. Through a magical library, she gets to experience different life paths to see which life is worth living. She explores lives where she is an Olympic swimmer, the lead singer of a famous band, a glaciologist in the Arctic and other alternate versions of herself. Florence Pugh will star as Nora and produce the film.
Zac Efron to star in ‘Angel Heart’
Zac Efron will star in and executive produce “Angel Heart” for HBO and A24. The series is based on the 1978 horror novel “Falling Angel” by William Hjortsberg. The novel was adapted to the 1987 film starring Mickey Rourke and Robert De Niro.
