Author Casey McQuiston to release new ‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ novella
‘Red, White & Royal Blue” author Casey McQuiston to release an epistolary novella titled “Red White & Royal Blue: The Private Correspondence” on Dec. 1. It will follow communication between Alex, the president’s son and Prince Henry. The author also shared a Q&A about the upcoming book with fans on Instagram and said, “I treat the book canon and the movie canon as two separate universes.” The sequel to the “Red, White & Royal Blue” film, “Red, White & Royal Wedding,” is expected to premiere this winter.
David E. Kelley to bring Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar to Netflix
David E. Kelley and Kyle Long will co-showrun, co-write and co-executive produce a drama series adaptation of Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar book series. The character debuted in 1995’s “Deal Breaker” and has been a character in 12 of Coben’s novels. Bolitar, a former NBA player, is a sports agent who, while representing his clients, investigates murder attempts and more.
‘The Vampire Lestat’ releases ode to self
Lestat de Lioncourt (Sam Reid) has released another song—this one an ode to himself aptly titled “Butterscotch Bitch.” This is the fourth official single that’s been released from the vamp. “The Vampire Lestat” will premiere on June 7 on AMC and AMC+
‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ wraps, posts sword pic
Director Dean Dubois announced Saturday that “How to Train Your Dragon 2” has wrapped. He also shared a first look at Hiccup’s (Mason Thames) sword. The film is based on Cressida Cowell’s book series “How to Train Your Dragon.” He posted on Instagram, “And that’s a wrap on HTTYD2! 81 days of principal photography now complete. Onto post production. See you in June of ‘27!” Cowell commented on the post “So many congrats to all.”
Mila Kunis and Corey Hawkin’s ‘Nightwatching’ moves forward
Mila Kunis and Corey Hawkins will star in “Nightwatching,” a thriller film adapted from Tracy Sierra’s debut novel. Fifth Season and HarbourView Equity Partners (HarbourView) will partner up to finance the film, among others.
Sam Raimi to direct ‘Magic’
Lionsgate announced that Sam Raimi will direct “Magic,” a modern take on William Goldman’s 1976 novel of the same name. The book was first adapted in 1978, into a film starring Anthony Hopkins. The story follows a ventriloquist who is being controlled by an evil puppet, just when he is finding happiness in his life. Deadline was the first to announce the news.
Francis Lawrence to direct ‘Carry Me to My Grave’
Christopher Golden, author of the upcoming novel “Carry Me to My Grave,” announced its adaptation. Lionsgate has acquired the rights and Francis Lawrence (“I Am Legend,” “The Hunger Games”) will direct. He posted on Instagram: “SURPRISE! You all know how much I love this novel. I couldn’t be more thrilled to have Francis Lawrence on board to direct!” Deadline was the first to announce the news. The supernatural horror will be published on July 21.
‘The Bride’ to stream on HBO Max
Maggie Gyllenhaal’s “The Bride!” will start to stream on HBO Max on May 22 and on HBO on May 23 at 8 p.m. ET. The film stars Jessie Buckley, Christian Bale, Annette Bening, Jake Gyllenhaal and Penélope Cruz.
ICYMI: Amazon MGM announced hunt for new James Bond
Amazon MGM posted on X, “The search for the next James Bond is underway. While we don’t plan to comment on specific details during the casting process, we’re excited to share more news with 007 fans as soon as the time is right.” Some James Bond films are based on Ian Fleming’s novels and some are inspired by the suave character.
