Romance adaptations coming soon: ‘Off Campus,’ ‘Beach Read,’ ‘Bennet Sister’

‘The Other Bennet Sister’
May 6
Mary Bennet (Emily Bruccoleri) seeks love in this “Pride and Prejudice” reimagining.  Adapted from the 2020 novel of the same name by Janice Hadlow, “The Other Bennet Sister” follows middle sister Mary. Often overshadowed by her older sisters, beautiful Jane and clever Elizabeth, and her two troublemaking and impulsive younger sisters, Kitty and Lydia, it’s finally Mary’s turn to find a man. The series originally aired on BBC and is coming to BritBox on May 6.

‘Off Campus’
May 13
Based on the novel “The Deal” from the “Off Campus” series by Elle Kenned, the story follows shy Hannah, who tutors the captain of her college’s all-star hockey team, Garrett, in exchange for a fake date. Fake dating and opposites attract tropes? Hot. The series stars Ella Bright, Belmont Cameli and Steve Howey. “Off Campus” premieres on May 13 on Prime Video. The series has been picked up for a Season 2 before it has even aired.

‘Every Year After’
June 10
The story in “Every Year After”  takes place over six years and one week in the lake town Barry’s Bay. Based on Carley Fortune’s bestselling novel “Every Summer After.” It follows the first love between Percy (Sadie Soverall) and Sam (Matt Cornett). All episodes drop June 10 on Prime Video.

‘Your Fault: London’
June 2026
Your Fault: London” is the sequel to “My Fault: London,” an adaptation of the novel “Culpa mía” by Mercedes Ron. The romance stars Asha Banks and Matthew Broome as Noah and Nick. Noah moves from Florida to London with her mother, who marries a wealthy businessman, William. His son, Nick, also lives there, and Noah clashes with him at first, and then, of course, they connect. The sequel continues their story as Noah begins college at Oxford and Nick stays at home to work. It will stream on Prime Video.

‘Heartstopper Forever’
July 17
“Heartstopper” series will conclude with a film that recently wrapped production. Nick (Kit Connor) and Charlie’s (Joe Locke) relationship will continue in a story written by “Heartstopper” creator, executive producer, and graphic novelist Alice Oseman. It was recently announced that Olivia Colman won’t return as Nick’s mother in the finale to the “Heartstopper” franchise. Instead, Anna Maxwell Martin will take on the role of Sarah Nelson.  The movie will premiere July 17 on Netflix.

Sense and Sensibility’ 
Oct. 16
The latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility,” which was originally set to premiere on Sept. 11 has now been delayed until Oct. 16. The Focus Features film stars Daisy Edgar-Jones and Esme Creed-Miles as sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood. Georgia Oakley is directing the film.  

‘Pride and Prejudice’
This fall
You wanted more Austen? You’re getting it. Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden are the new Lizzie Bennet and Mr. Darcy in Netflix’s adaptation of “Pride and Prejudice.” Olivia Colman and Rufus Sewell star as Mr. and Mrs. Bennet. 

‘Red, White & Royal Wedding’ 
Late 2026
The sequel to Prime Video’s “Red, White & Royal Blue” has wrapped production. “Red, White & Royal Wedding” adapts the bonus chapter from the collector’s edition of Casey McQuiston’s novel, focusing on the wedding of Bea, Prince Henry’s (Nicholas Galitzine) sister.

‘This Summer Will Be Different’
Netflix is adapting the bestselling romance “This Summer Will Be Different” by Carley Fortune as a 10-episode series. The 2024 book tells the story of Lucy, who falls in love with her best friend’s brother over the course of several summers on Canada’s Prince Edward Island. 

‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’
This coming-of-age romance drama is based on Jenny Han’s trilogy “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” “It’s Not Summer Without You,” and “We’ll Always Have Summer.” The Prime Video series follows Belly (Lola Tung) and her relationship with brothers Conrad (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno). Season 1 premiered in 2022 and the series finale premiered in 2025. The cast is currently shooting a film to conclude the story.

‘The Marriage Bargain’
Twentieth Century Studios has acquired the rights to Jennifer Probst’s “The Marriage Bargain.” The 2012 novel was the first in the “Married to a Billionaire” series. The rom-com follows Alexa and Nicholas and a fake marriage that will help each of them financially. But you know how that goes.  

‘Beach Read’
Patrick Schwarzenegger was announced to star as Gus opposite Phoebe Dynevor’s January in “Beach Read.” The film is an adaptation of the 2020 book of the same name by Emily Henry, author of “People We Meet on Vacation.” The novel centers on January, a romance writer, and her rival, Gus, a literary fiction author. The writers are both struggling with different kinds of loss. They decide to swap genres for the summer while living in neighboring beach houses. Will they swap anything else? Stay tuned.

‘Fake Skating’
More sexy hockey? Yes, please. Lynn Painter’s romantic-comedy book “Fake Skating” is being developed into a feature film. The author announced the news on Instagram. The sporty story follows childhood sweethearts, Alec and Dani, who reunite in their home town.

‘First-Time Caller’
B.K. Morrison’s 2025 romance novel “First-Time Caller” has been optioned by A Cup of Happy Productions. “Tell Me Lies” executive producer Laura Lewis is set to produce the adaptation. The book, which follows a jaded host of a Baltimore romance hotline, is the first in the “Heartstrings” trilogy.

‘Playing the Field’
Amazon MGM Studios is developing a series based on Meryl Wilsner’s queer romance “Cleat Cute.” Wilsner, who announced the news on Instagram, described the television series, which will be titled “Playing the Field,” as “an ensemble comedy following the New Orleans professional women’s soccer team, anchored by the will-they-won’t-they romance of newly drafted phenom Phoebe Matthews and team captain Grace Henderson.”

‘Bridgerton’ Season 5  
Netflix announced “Bridgerton” Season 5 will focus on the relationship between Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and Michaela (Masali Baduza). The love story is based on Julia Quinn’s sixth book in the “Bridgerton” series, “When He Was Wicked.” “Bridgerton” also announced new casting, fleshing out some of the characters involved in telling Francesca and Michaela’s story in Season 5. Joining the cast are Tega Alexander, Jacqueline Boatswain and Gemma Knight Jones.  

‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2
The second season of “Heated Rivalry,” Jacob Tieney’s series based on the books by Rachel Reid, is filming now. We are all waiting with baited breath for more of the romantic story of rival hockey players Shane Hollander (Hudson Williams) and Ilya Rosanov (Connie Storrie). We will update you with news as we get it.
