It’s been nearly 20 years since Javier Bardem creeped audiences out with his role in “No Country for Old Men,” but the new trailer for “Cape Fear” released Thursday proves he’s still got it. 

Bardem stars as Max Cady in the series adaptation of John D. McDonald’s “The Executioners.” It’s the third adaptation of the book after two films in 1962 and 1991. 

Cady is a newly released ex-con who’s been proven innocent after spending 17 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Now he’s out for revenge against his lawyers played by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. 

“Is there any way Max could know about what we did?” Adams’ Anna Bowden asks her husband, Tom Bowden (Wilson). 

“We did what we thought was right,” Tom says. 

As the couple and their teenage children feel the threat of Max’s presence and guilt over their previous actions, Barden becomes increasingly unhinged and unpredictable. 

“Why would I want to hurt you?” he repeats throughout the trailer. 

The series, which also stars Ron Perlman, is set to hit Apple TV on June 5.
