The teaser for Prime Video’s “Elle” opens in Bel Air in 1995 at a pool party at Elle’s (Lexi Minetree) home. The teen is surrounded by friends in pastels and grateful for her life.
The new series is a prequel to the Reese Witherspoon film “Legally Blonde,” which was based on the 2001 book of the same name by Amanda Brown. The prequel has already been picked up for a second season.
Afterwards, decked out entirely in pink, Elle sits by the pool and reads a magazine. Her parents (June Diane Raphael and Tom Everett Scott) sit with her and break the news that they will be moving to Seattle for her father’s new job.
Elle cries at the news and worries about fitting in in a new city. She packs up and takes her dog Bruiser and sets out for a new start.
“I’m feeling very blonde,” she laments to her mother as they pull up to her new school.
She pops her pink umbrella in the rain and enters her new school.
“Elle” premieres on July 1.
About the writer
Daisy Horowitz has been an arts & features writer for nearly 15 years. She grew up watching “Legally Blonde” on repeat and still believes Elle Woods is one of cinema’s great underestimated heroines. When she’s not covering adaptations and pop culture, she’s building miniature dioramas, experimenting in the kitchen and convincing people that pink is a power color.
