This week in adaptation trailers: April 26 to May 2

‘Five-Star Weekend’

Jennifer Garner stars as famed cook and bestselling author Hollis Shaw in Peacock’s “The Five Star Weekend.”

The series is an adaptation of a 2023 novel of the same name by Elin Hilderbrand, who also wrote the book behind Netflix’s recent “The Perfect Couple.”

The story centers on Hollis, who suffers a life changing loss. She spirals as she learns of marital issues, faces pressure to keep up with fans and butts heads with her daughter. She decides that hosting a weekend with close friends at her Nantucket house would be the perfect pick-me-up–while also appealing to her fans.

D’Arcy Carden, Gemma Chan, Regina Hall, Chloë Sevigny, Harlow Jane and Timothy Olyphant also star in the limited series. It premieres July 16.

‘Verity’

Audiences got their first, creepy look at the latest adaptation of a Colleen Hoover book, “Verity,” starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson and Josh Hartnett.

The story follows Lowen Ashleigh (Johnson) as she moves in with Verity (Hathaway) and Jeremy Crawford (Hartnett) to help ghostwrite for the former, a bestselling author.

“Verity,” which is directed by Michael Showalter and also stars Ismael Cruz Cordova and Brady Wagner, is set to hit theaters October 2.

HBO geared up viewers for a bloody, deadly showdown between the Targaryens and the Hightowers in a new teaser trailer for “House of the Dragon” released Monday.

It’s the second trailer for Season 3 of the high-fantasy series from the mind of author George R.R. Martin. It’s set to debut June 21. Like the first teaser, the new promo promises big battles and lots of blood. And what’s a “Game of Thrones” series without some betrayal thrown in?
