A24 has optioned the rights to adapt Alexis Hall’s queer contemporary romance “Boyfriend Material” into a television series, the author announced Wednesday.
Deadline was the first to report the news.
“This is absolutely thrilling in ways where it feels scary to want something so much,” Hall said in a post on Instagram about the project.
“I hope you’ll find it as exciting as I do.”
Hall’s 2020 novel follows disaster-prone nepo baby Luc O’Donnell, whose messy personal life becomes tabloid fodder. He agrees to a fake relationship with buttoned-up barrister Oliver Blackwood. What starts as PR damage control slowly turns into something real.
“Boyfriend Material” is the first book in a trilogy, which includes “Husband Material” and “Father Material.”
Another of Hall’s novels, “Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake,” has also been optioned through Paramount.
About the writer
Danielle Haynes is the co-founder and co-editor of Booked & Screened, covering book-to-screen adaptations, film and TV development. She would like to remind you that within one week of operation, B&S called for someone, somewhere to make an adaptation of “Boyfriend Material.” You’re welcome.
