The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

Adria Arjona to star as Maxima in ‘Superman’ sequel

Adria Arjona will play Maxima, an alien queen and love interest for Superman in James Gunn’s “Superman: Man of Tomorrow.” The actress is known for her role as Anathema Device in “Good Omens” and Bix Caleen in “Andor.” David Corenswet stars as Superman/Clark Kent. 

First look: ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Season 2

“Outlander: Blood of My Blood” released first-look images and a teaser of its second season. The prequel series tells the stories of the parents of both lead roles in the original series, Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp (Caitriona Balfe). It stars Harriet Slater, Jamie Roy, Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine. “Outlander” is adapted from Diana Gabaldon’s series of novels.

‘His & Hers’ one of Netflix’s most-watched series

His & Hers,” the suspense series based on Alice Feeney’s 2020 novel of the same name, is the 10th most-watched English-language TV show on Netflix. The series garnered 98.2 million views. Tessa Thompson and Jon Bernthal star in the thriller as a separated couple racing to solve a murder case. She is a reporter and he is the local lead detective.   

Erin Kellyman and Tim McGraw join ‘Southern Bastards’

Erin Kellyman and Tim McGraw have joined Kevin Bacon in “Southern Bastards.” The upcoming Hulu drama is adapted from the graphic novel series of the same name by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour, who will also executive produce the show. The story centers on a military vet (Kellyman) who goes to Alabama in search of her father. 

Netflix announces animated ‘Charlie Vs. The Chocolate Factory’ 

Kit Connor and Taika Waititi are set to voice characters in the new “Charlie Vs. The Chocolate Factory.” The story follows Willy Wonka who returns to his factory after serving jail time for turning a kid into a blueberry. Teenager Charlie Paley is there to try and stop the mayhem. 

‘Your Fault, London’ sets release month

Your Fault, London” will premiere on Prime Video in June. The sequel to “My Fault: London,” an adaptation of the novel “Culpa mía” by Mercedes Ron, stars Asha Banks and Matthew Broome. It follows the romance between Noah and Nick. Noah moves from Florida to London with her mother who marries a wealthy businessman, William. His son Nick also lives there and Noah clashes with him at first…and then the pair connect. The sequel continues their story as Noah begins college at Oxford.

‘Social Reckoning’ trailer shown at CinemaCon

The film by Aaron Sorkin follows the events of the film “The Social Network,” based on the 2009 book “The Accidental Billionaires: A Tale of Sex, Money, Genius, and Betrayal” by Ben Mezrich. It stars Jeremy Allen White, Jeremy Strong, Mikey Madison and Bill Burr. Sorkin wrote the scripts for both films. 

Neil Patrick Harris, Tituss Burgess, Ellie Kemper to voice Mo Willems’ book adaptations

Paramount+ announced Thursday that it is adapting titles from Mo Willems’ bestselling book series into animated shows. Tituss Burgess and Ellie Kemper will voice “Elephant Gerald” and “Piggie” in the “The Elephant & Piggie Show!,” while Neil Patrick Harris will voice “The Bus Driver” in “The Pigeon Show! Starring The Pigeon.”

Filming begins on ‘Legacy of Spies’

The upcoming series “Legacy of Spies” is adapted from John La Carré’s 1963 novel “The Spy Who Came in from the Cold.” It follows spy George Smiley, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and field operative Alex Leamas, played by Charlie Hunnam. The ensemble cast includes Dan Stevens, Agnes O’Casey, Felix Kammerer, Volker Bruch, Saskia Rosendahl, Patrick Güldenberg, Safia Oakley-Green, Jake Dunn and Ariyon Bakare.

Patrick Schwarzenegger to star in ‘Beach Read’

Patrick Schwarzenegger is to star as Gus opposite Phoebe Dynevor’s January in “Beach Read.” The film is an adaptation of the 2020 book of the same name by Emily Henry, author of “People We Meet on Vacation.” Yulin Kuang, screenwriter for “People We Meet on Vacation,” will direct “Beach Read” and write the script. 

Dan Stevens joins “Dexter: Resurrection’ Season 2

“Beauty and the Beast” star Dan Stevens is joining “Dexter: Resurrection” Season 2 as The Five Borough Killer. The character is described as being similar to the Zodiac killer, as he calls the police with threats of murdering the innocent residents of New York City.  A premiere date for Season 2 of “Dexter: Resurrection” has not yet been announced.

Amanda Seyfried, Gaten Matarazzo cast in ‘Octet’

Filmmaker Lin-Manuel Miranda is reteaming with his “Hamilton” castmates Jonathan Groff and Phillipa Soo for the upcoming adaptation of the musical “The Octet.” Also joining the cast are Amanda Seyfried, Rachel Zegler, Sheryl Lee Ralph, Gaten Matarazzo, Tramell Tillman and Paul-Jordan Jansen. 

‘Young Sherlock’ greenlit for Season 2

Prime Video announced it renewed “Young Sherlock” for a second season.  Guy Ritchie will return as director and executive producer. Hero Fiennes Tiffin stars as the young Sherlock Holmes. Like most Ritchie features, it relies on action—and mystery.

‘Klara and the Sun’ gets release date

Sony Pictures announced the release date for “Klara and the Sun” at CinemaCon Monday. It was filmed in 2024 and is set to premiere in theaters on Oct. 23. Jenna Ortega stars as Klara, an artificial friend hired to help a family in a dystopian world divided by class and genetic enhancement. Taika Waititi directed the film.
