The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

Amazon developing sapphic soccer series ‘Playing the Field’

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a series based on Meryl Wilsner’s queer romance “Cleat Cute.” Wilsner, who announced the news on Instagram, described the television series, which will be titled “Playing the Field,” as “an ensemble comedy following the New Orleans professional women’s soccer team, anchored by the will-they-won’t-they romance of newly drafted phenom Phoebe Matthews and team captain Grace Henderson.”

Sarah Tapscott will serve as showrunner, and, in addition to Amazon MGM, Future Shack Entertainment and sports icons Sue Bird and Megan Rapinoe on behalf of A Touch More are producing. 

“When I tell you this could not be in better hands, I mean it,” Wilsner said on Instagram. 

‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ red carpet to stream

The red carpet arrivals for the premiere of “The Devil Wears Prada 2” will be streamed live on Disney+, Hulu and TikTok on April 20. The event is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. ET. 

The sequel, starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci, hits theaters May 1, 2026. 

‘Children of Blood and Bone’ gets release date

Paramount Pictures announced the release date for its adaptation of Tomi Adeyemi’s fantasy novel “Children of Blood and Bone.”

The star-studded film is set to be released Jan. 15, 2027. The X account for the movie also showed off a short clip of the logo. 

The young adult romantasy is set to star Thuso Mbedu, Amandla Stenberg, Damson Idris, Tosin Cole, Cynthia Erivo, Chiwetel Ejofor, Lashana Lynch, Idris Elba and Viola Davis.

New look at ‘Sunrise on the Reaping’

Lionsgate Movies released a 16-minute video offering a look back at its “Hunger Games” franchise, including some fresh clips from the forthcoming prequel. 

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” which hits theaters Nov. 20, 2026, tells the story of the 50th games, known as the Second Quarter Quell. The film centers the character of Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada. Woody Harrelson originated the role in 2012 in the first “The Hunger Games” movie based on Suzanne Collins’ young adult dystopian series.
