The pipeline from page to screen shows no signs of slowing. Here’s a quick look at the latest adaptation announcements, casting updates and projects in development.

Baseball film ‘The Comebacker’ reunites Hanks, Heller

Tom Hanks (“Angels & Demons”) is set to star in an upcoming adaptation of Dave Eggers’ novella “The Comebacker.” The film will see Hanks return to the baseball field, this time directed by “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” filmmaker Marielle Heller. Multiple studios are bidding on the project, which has yet to begin filming and doesn’t have a release date. 

Netflix gives ‘Kennedy’ first look

Netflix released its first look at Michael Fassbender (“Jane Eyre”) as American political patriarch Joe Kennedy Sr. in “Kennedy.” The series about one of the most prevalent political families in the United States is now in production with filming taking place in London. The streamer also announced new casting, which includes Laura Donnelly as Rose Kennedy, Nick Robinson as Joe Kennedy Jr. and Joshuah Melnick as Jack Kennedy. Also appearing are Ben Miles, Lydia Peckham, Saura Lightfoot-Leon, Cole Doman, Imogen Poots (“Hedda”), Wyatt Russell, Denis O’Hare and Eddie Marsan. 

Apple greenlights ‘The Liminal’

Apple announced it has greenlit an adaptation of the graphic novel “Telepaths” by J. Michael Straczynski, Steve Epting and Brian Reber. The sci-fi thriller, titled “The Liminal,” will star Vanessa Kirby (“The Crown”) and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (“Wonder Man”). The graphic novel tells of alternate Earth where an electromagnetic disturbance causes 10 percent of the population to have telepathic abilities. 

‘Bosch’ prequel offers first look

Cameron Monaghan offered an official first look at his new role playing Harry Bosch in the new “Bosch” prequel series. Offering a look at the early part of the titular detective’s career, “Bosch: Start of Watch” also stars Omari Hardwick. Monaghan said filming was underway for the Prime Video series, which doesn’t have a release date. 

AMC cancels ‘Talamasca’

AMC announced there won’t be a second season of “Talamasca: The Secret Order.” The series was part of the Immortal Universe inspired by Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles and Lives of the Mayfair Witches series of books. AMC said it expects to see some of the characters in future seasons within the franchise, which includes “Interview with the Vampire” (renamed “The Vampire Lestat” for the third season) and “Mayfair Witches.”

Mr. Nelson Did You Kill People?

Filmmaker Shinya Tsukamoto shared first-look images for the third movie in his war trilogy, “Mr. Nelson Did You Kill People?” The film stars Rodney Hicks as the real-life Allen Nelson, whose biographical book of the same name told of his experience as a U.S. service member fighting in the Vietnam War. The film is set for a Japanese release, but there’s not yet a release date for the United States. Geoffrey Rush and Tatyana Ali also star.
